Among these cars I would suggest you to go for the Hyundai i20. The Elite i20 is a better option for the city with its light steering wheel. Compared to the earlier version, it is also good at the highway. The cost of ownership, long time reliability and the resale value, all are better in the Elite i20. The Polo pulls ahead in terms of handling and build quality, but the rear seat is cramped and if you are planning to go on long trips with family, the rear seat would not be a comfortable place in the Polo. Also, as its your first car, you would easily get used to the handling on the Elite i20. Another option I would suggest you to look at would be the Honda Jazz SV MT. The Jazz is a well balanced car with good city and highway manners and also has good space utilization.

Hi sanjaya4u88 you have shortlisted two very good cars here. The Volkswagen Polo is definitely one of the most safest cars in the market, the Hyundai i20 is not bad too. But considering the fact that this will be your first car, I would suggest you go for the Ford Figo 1.5 Ti-VCT petrol. The Ford Figo, in this combination, is a very capable car. It also comes with an automatic transmission as standard which will come in handy in city traffic. Out on the highway, the Ford Figo handles brilliantly and is one of the best handling hatchbacks in the market right now. The Ford Figo has a very spacious interior compared to the Volkswagen Polo although the interiors don't give out as premium a feel as you would get on the other two cars. But that does not mean the Ford Figo's interiors are bad, it's just that there are too many hard plastics around. The benefit of this is that the materials used inside will last a lot longer. The Ford Figo 1.5 Ti-VCT comes only in Titanium trim so you also get 6 airbags with ABS and EBD as standard which is much better than the Volkswagen Polo Highline in terms of safety. Ford has claimed that the cost of servicing their cars have gone done by a significant margin, so cost of ownership shouldn't be so much of a bother too.

Hi, Need some suggestion for a first time car buy both coming for 7.3 lakhs(discount on Polo). Requiement; 1- City travel. 30kms per day 2- Occasional highway trips with family 3- Cost of ownership of a Polo vs i20 4- Long term usage (7-8 years) 5- Safety 6- first car and beginner in driving Polo with new features looks as alluring as the Hyundai i20, but loses in terms of space. Is safety in Polo relatively that high considering both offer ABS and Dual Airbags. Is highway driving in i20 really that pathetic considering 100-120kmph and long trips. Is maintenance really a big burden in the Polo. If yes, how much extra compared to the i20. Please suggest if there is any other angle also to decide for the same. how about a Ford Figo Petrol which is much cheaper * Baleno is having very long waiting period here(10 months), so not in shortlisted ones
