Q.Datsun redi-GO Launch and Updates
678 Views Add Comment70 CommentsRoshun | 8 years agoThe Datsun Redi-GO Sport was supposed to be a limited-edition vehicle, with only 1000 vehicles being made. However, that batch was sold out within a month, and there has been demand for more. Datsun just announced that it will make another 800 units of this Limited-Edition Datsun Redi-Go Sport. The Datsun Redi-GO Sport is priced at Rs. 3.49 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. For just about Rs. 15,000 more than the regular Datsun Redi-GO S variant, the Datsun Redi-Go Sport offers a sporty black mesh grille with red accents, wheel caps with red accents, black decals over the hood and roof, a roof spoiler finished in black, all-black interior, sporty black dashboard, keyless entry, bluetooth music system and reverse parking sensors. It comes in three colour options - red, white and grey, with the same exterior graphic options. The car is available at 227 Datsun dealerships around the country. Roshun | 8 years agoDatsun also invited Olympian medal-winnning Sakshi Malik to the event and presented the first Datsun redi-GO Sport to her. She has become the brand ambassador for Datsun.
Praveen | 8 years agoJijoMalayil The black-white and red colour combination is really tasteful! Looks really great for a budget car. I wish budget car makers bring out actual sports variants of their cars with actual performance upgrades instead of visual improvements (For the same premium). For example, instead of going for a fully loaded Brio, (which costs some 7-odd lac) with chrome bits, extra features and whatnot, I'd rather go for the basic one with better suspension or brakes. That'd also be a good deal, don't you think?
Jijo | 8 years agoHere is our super-mod Roshun live from the Datsun redi-GO Sport launch, explaining what's new with the car. Check it out! [facebook_video]https://www.facebook.com/zigwheels/videos/1140610366004543[/facebook_video]
Jijo | 8 years ago[QUOTE_NODE]"Originally posted by NikilSJ" The redi-GO Sport is based on the top-end redi-GO and priced at Rs 3,49,000 which is Rs 15,000 above the top-end redi-GO 'S' variant. [/QUOTE_NODE] So for Rs 15000, you get a remote-locking system, reverse parking sensors, Bluetooth, body decals, rear spoiler on the outside and darker ( more sportier) interiors. Looks like great value for money!

Nikil | 8 years agoWrestler and Olympic medalist Sakhsi Malik is the brand ambassador for the new redi-GO Sport.
Nikil | 8 years agoJust as we presumed, the Sport variant gets 9 unique features :- a sporty black mesh grille with red accents, wheel caps with red accents, black stripes, a roof spoiler finished in black, all-black interior, sporty black dashboard, keyless entry, bluetooth music system, reverse parking sensors and is three shades - Ruby, White and Grey with Black Stripes.
Nikil | 8 years agoMeanwhile, you can read all about the standard redi-GO here: https://www.zigwheels.com/forum/posts/9960-datsun-redi-go-detailed-review
Nikil | 8 years agoDatsun's launching the redi-GO Sport variant just 5 months after the launch of the standard variant. Don't expect a performance gain or anything like that just because the name suggests so. This is likely to be just a visual upgrade to the standard variant. The teaser image revealed some details of what we can expect. The Sport variant is likely to get racing stripes, black wheel caps with body colour accents and a sportier looking interior. I'd be surprised if they give anything more than that. Let's wait and watch.
Jijo | 8 years agoNissan will launch a limited edition redi-GO Sport variant on the September 29th in India. This may very well be Datsun's way of promoting the redi-GO this festive season. Seen are blackened grille, black stripes on the body and black wheel covers. It sure looks Sporty! But don't expect any mechanical updates to justify its "Sport" tag. A 799cc three-cylinder motor putting out 53PS of peak power and 72Nm of torque powers the regular redi-GO.
Jijo | 8 years agoDatsun has received over 10,000 bookings for redi-Go in 40 days of its launch in India. Datsun had surprised everybody with the Rs 2.37 lakh starting price tag at the launch. redi-Go is all set to the become the largest selling Datsun car in India. Check out this redi-Go TVC. Interesting!
Jijo | 8 years agoThe Datsun redi-GO also comes with an 2 year/unlimited kilometres standard warranty. An an optional extended warranty for 2 or 3 years/unlimited kilometres is also available. This gives redi-GO owners the option of up to 5 years/unlimited kilometres warranty coverage. Peace of mind!
Jijo | 8 years agoDatsun redi-GO will be supported by 274 Nissan and Datsun sales & service touchpoints in India starting today. They have also tied up with "MyTVS" service outlets to enhance their service network, especially in the Tier-II and Tier-III cities in India. Datsun also claims that in the first 50,000 kilometers, redi-Go will be 32% cheaper to maintain, than the competition.

Nikil | 8 years agoRoshun the styling kits look pretty good. I am sure we'll see a lot of redi-GO's with roof rails running around town soon enough. Still can't understand this obsession with roof rails and chrome on hatchbacks.

Nikil | 8 years agoCorsaVeloce It certainly isn't going to make a dent in terms of sales figures for Maruti. But at least now we have a worthy alternative to the Alto 800. The Datsun does miss out on a couple of things, but on the short drive that Datsun had given us, the redi-GO seemed like a better car than the Alto 800, but that was just a first impression. Let's get our hands on one and test it thoroughly, what say?
Roshun | 8 years agoNikilSJ Here is a quick comparison of prices between the Maruti Alto 800 and the Datsun redi-GO: DATSUN REDI-GO PRICES Datsun redi-GO D: Rs. 2,38,900 Datsun redi-GO A: Rs. 2,82,649 Datsun redi-GO T: Rs. 3,09,149 Datsun redi-GO T(O): Rs. 3,19,399 Datsun redi-GO S: Rs. 3,34,399 MARUTI ALTO 800 PRICES Maruti Alto STD - Rs 2,49,000 Maruti Alto LX - Rs 2,83,000 Maruti Alto LXI - Rs 3,09,000 Maruti LXI CNG - Rs 3,70,000 Maruti Alto VXI - Rs 3,28,000 And for Rs. 6,000 extra on any variant you can add a driver's side airbag - that's if you want a relatively safer variant. In the Datsun redi-GO only the S variant gets a driver's side airbag. You also get daytime running lamps, while the Alto VXI now comes with fog lamps. If you check the comparison chart in the detailed review, you will see the redi-GO offers more space too. However, the redi-GO offers more power and torque as well, just a little bit more. Maruti's biggest advantage though remains the confidence that customers have in the brand - a tried and tested product. And its sales network reach. I did a dipstick poll in the office asking people to choose between the two, and most still said they would buy an Alto, because they were comfortable with the brand. Datsun, they say, is still unfamiliar to them and they don't know if resale value and spares would be an issue for it.
Vidit | 8 years agoNikilSJ are you sure about it being better than the Alto 800? I really doubt that. Roshun and I were just discussing how Maruti does know how to make cars, especially for the Indian consumer. The other day, MotuSid was driving the Alto 800 and I was in the Renautl Kwid and trust me, the latter did not have a spot on the way the Alto drove. Even though im not at all a fan of the looks of the recently launched Alto 800, it drives a hundred times better than the Kwid. It has the simple, easy to drive car characteristic and is much easier to maneuver within city limits when compared to the Kwid. I think the rediGo will make for a great package, but is far, far away from making a dent in the sale books of Maruti.
Nikil | 8 years agoThe pricing seems brilliant. It undercuts the Alto 800 by 20-odd thousand rupees. I just hope Datsun invests in marketing this car in a big way and try to reach potential customers through social media and print. Having gone for the drive event in Kolkata, I feel the redi-GO is way better than the Alto 800. But it might struggle a bit against the Hyundai Eon and its cousin - the Renault Kwid. Kwid sales have picked up like crazy and has changed the way people perceive the Renault brand altogether. I hope the redi-GO can do the same for Datsun too, as it is too good a car to fail in our market.
Roshun | 8 years agoUPDATE: The Datsun redi-Go has been launched at a price of Rs. 2,38,900 to Rs. 3,34,399 ex-showroom Delhi The Datsun redi-Go comes in five variants. Jijo | 8 years agoThe brochure for the redi-Go is out just before its official launch on the 7th of June. The prices which were leaked earlier, had indicated that redi-Go will start at Rs. 2,39,500. That would undercut even the new facelifted Alto 800. So, As per the leaked brochure, Datsun will offer the red-GO in five variants, namely D, A T, T(O) and S. Datsun is going all out to woo the entry level hatch buyer out there, they will be offering a total of five styling kits. These are, Easy Kit Sporty, Easy Kit Premium, Kool Kit, Urban Kit and Style Kit. The is redi-Go is all set to repeat a Kwid like success, in my opinion. Hope the Datsun brand image does not deter potential customers from this product. And the manfacturer really needs to expand their reach across India.
Jijo | 8 years ago
Woah! If it is priced at Rs 2.39 lakh as Jijo says, then the redi-Go will be a steal when compared to the Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. However, my concern is Datsun's showrooms. All the Datsun showrooms I've seen in Chennai and New Delhi doesn't look like a comfy place to walk into. They feel like Maruti showrooms from the late 90s. But that's just what I feel. One thing I'm sure though is that the redi-GO will sell like hot cakes in Tier-II cities across the country.
Dealership network, especially in tier-II and tier-III cities is the only thing that will stand in the way of redi-Go's success, i guess. Renault was able to pull it off with the Kwid with just 209 dealers in India. Datsun however has around 170 dealers now. Hope they expand at a rapid pace from now. The look and feel at these dealerships is also an issue as NikilSJ mentioned. Datsun, n00b , are you listening?

Jijo | 8 years agoDatsun which had earlier send out a press release, saying that their upcoming redi-Go hatch will start at Rs 2.5 lakhs. But, it seems like they are in taking the pricing game to an another level, with the Datsun website showing a starting price of Rs. 2,39,500. for the redi-Go. The official launch and variant-wise prices are scheduled for June 7th. With this kind of pricing and what seems to a decent offering the redi-Go is, it is likely to generate large sales volumes for Datsun. Arjun | 8 years ago
Datsun India has announced the redi-GOs fuel efficiency figure. At 25.17km per litre, it is exactly the same as the Renault Kwid (CMF-A platform) which it is based on. The Datsun redi-GO gets the 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol engine like the Kwid.
From the specifications it does sound like this is sharing the engine with the Kwid. I would not be surprised if they would have more parts shared among the two cars. As Kwid is already selling in high numbers, mass producing parts for both the cars would make sense, and would help keeping prices down for both the cars.
Nikil | 8 years agoDatsun India has announced the redi-GOs fuel efficiency figure. At 25.17km per litre, it is exactly the same as the Renault Kwid (CMF-A platform) which it is based on. The Datsun redi-GO gets the 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol engine like the Kwid. Though Datsun hasn’t announced the power figures for this motor, expect it to be the same as the Kwid at 54BHP of power and 72Nm of peak torque. Since the redi-GO is light than the Kwid by 25kg, expect the redi-GO to offer sprightly performance. The Datsun redi-GO is likely to come with five colour options - White, Silver, Ruby Red, Lime and Bronze Gray. Features include power steering, front power windows, LED daytime running lights, integrated music system and an optional driver-side airbag as well. Ankit | 8 years agoRemember Nissan management not even considering Snapdeal for GO+ pre-bookings a year and a half back, despite continuous follow-ups by Snapdeal guys. How times change.
Vidit | 8 years agoUPDATE : Datsun sent out an official statement saying it will be taking pre-bookings for the recently showcased Datsun redi-Go Urban Cross starting on May 1, 2016. There are multiple options on how you could book one - through their dealer network or on SnapDeal. The car will be priced between Rs. 2.5 lakh and Rs. 3.5 lakh, according to the official statement. The car can be booked with a token amount of Rs. 5000. This price bracket has been the volume changer for manufacturers like Renault (with the Kwid). The top-selling Maruti Suzuki Alto is the main competitor of the lot, along with some of it's siblings from the same stable. High expectations from this car. Let's hope it creates the buzz for Datsun, which their earlier models failed to do.

Datsun have to price the redi-GO below the Kwid, to make it more appealing. I think, with these kind of prices, it will be a massive hit. Doesn't the Tata Nano seems to be over-priced now? PS: No ABS option in the Kwid yet.

Sanjaynissan | 8 years agoWHY THIS CHANGES.... DATSUN GO...GO+....REDI GO ?
Kaiserketkar | 8 years agoThe RediGo is definitely a better offering than the Go overall. But within the family, I'd still prefer the Kwid, unless they price this considerably below the Kwid- in the Nano territory. As it is always.... pricing will be key! ;)
Themallustig | 8 years agoA quick look video done by Overdrive. Will be great value for money, like the Kwid.
Jijo | 8 years agoThough, the headroom on offer is generous, the legroom at the rear is a concern. It is less than say, a Renault Kwid. The rear seat belts are non-retractable. That was to be expected, given that the Renault Kwid and Datsun Go also don't have retractable seat belts in the rear. Space is decent for two at the rear. Three is a squeeze. Floor is quite flat.
Khudeja | 8 years agoSmall cars are still popular in India. After Tata Tiago, this may be a big hit as people are showing great interest.
Vidit | 8 years agoA closer look at the digital cluster shows tiny tachometer, which will take some effort to read while driving. It has instant fuel economy, trip meter, fuel gauge and the rpm as well. This car on display had a mileage reading of 29.9 kmpl  Expect figures upwards of 20 kmpl from the frugal 800cc motor. The stalks are simple and in tune with the rest of the car. Front has a single wiper which gets the 'Mist' function and two speeds. No rear wash or wipe. The Datsun redi-Go gets the conventional right-side indicator and headlight stalk.
Vidit | 8 years ago
How about this? The rear windscreen looks small. The black cladding and the chrome strip do make it look quite premium.
I quite like the rear design. Reminds me of the Ritz a lot.
Vidit | 8 years agoArjun the variants have not been revealed yet. However, it is safe to assume that driver airbag+ABS would come as an option right from the base variant. Don't think there would be one for the passenger, given the design of the dashboard. The model on display did not have alloys as well, so I guess it'll be a wait for another month to get the exact specs on this car.
Vidit | 8 years agoThe interiors looks simple, yet distinctive for its class. That central triangular vent is quite unique. A closer look at the steering shows that there is a small digital tachometer embedded in the MID. The digital display also has fuel gauge, average consumption, instant fuel consumption, trip and odometer. The power window switches are mounted right in front of the gear lever. Many of you might now know this, but this is also a cost-saving measure as compared to mounting them individually on the doors. Reverse gear is located next to first in this 5-speed box, and gets a lift-type lock to engage reverse. The space between the front seats are adequate for keeping little things. Handbrake is the traditional type, not the pull type like on the Go. The rear does not have power windows, much like the Go. Rear window winds down just half way. No door pockets at the rear. The rediGO gets a much needed CD player which was not part of the accessories on the Go. It also has USB and Aux connectivity. The glove box gets a unique design. There's a shelf on top and small glove box below that can hold your papers and some knick knacks, but not a lot of stuff.
Arjun | 8 years ago
Few more exterior shots. The rear stands out in this pinkish red shade. How about this? The rear windscreen looks small. The black cladding and the chrome strip do make it look quite premium.
Cant see any variant badging. I believe they have not decided about the variants yet. What about passenger safety? Other than driver airbag, does it have passenger airbags, or ABS?
Jijo | 8 years agoFew more exterior shots. The rear stands out in this pinkish red shade. How about this? The rear windscreen looks small. The black cladding and the chrome strip do make it look quite premium. No keyhole at the back for the boot.
Jijo | 8 years agoLooks very compact from the front, right? You might have to watch out for those bumpers, as they project outward! LED DRLs, that will be first in this segment. 185 mm ground clearance, no dangling bits. Ankit | 8 years agoIs that a DRL ? If yes, then that should be a definite first in the class, isn't it?
Nikil | 8 years agoThe window line at the rear looks a bit high-set. I hope it doesn't make the cabin feel too cramped.

High customisation options are something they are stressing on. Datsun also working on finance options to make the car more accessible. Early bookings start 1st May and deliveries should begin 1st week of June.
Nikil | 8 years agoDatsun says they will expand their outlets and service centres from the current 165 cities to 200 or more.
Vidit | 8 years agoNikilSJ it is definitely better than the Kwid to look at and its primarily because it keeps the family lineage intact as far as design language goes. The line carrying from the front to the back, seem very similar to the GO. The grille on the front is also very similar!
Nikil | 8 years agoThe redi-Go has a very practical design with a clear view of the road from the cabin and easy ingress and egress. The ground clearance is also pretty high and Datsun says it can give some SUVs a run for their money. Datsun sounds pretty confident for once, don't they?
Nikil | 8 years agoLooks better than the Kwid doesn't it. With the Kwid, it feels like Renault cut a lot of corners to keep the cost low. But the red-Go on the other hand looks good to me. The redi-Go, Datsun say, is aimed at the younger generation (25-35) who don't like compromises in life. I think they got it pretty spot on with the styling and first impression.
Vidit | 8 years agoThe front end appears to be very familiar to the concept. From the app.

The prices, however, will be announced in June. Bookings for the Datsun redi-GO will commence on May 1, 2016 and Datsun promises to start deliveries by June. There were rumours that prices may start at Rs. 2.39 lakh earlier. See: Prices may start at Rs. 2.38 lakh for Datsun redi-Go according to sources) When launched, the redi-GO will take on the likes of Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon in India. Do check out the pre-launch story on the forum. From the official sketches that were teased by Datsun, the redi-GO stays more or less, similar to the redi-GO Concept that was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014. Design elements includes a tall-boy look, a bold shoulder line, high ground clearance and chunky wheel arches, which makes the Datsun redi- GO look like a crossover. The front gets sleek headlamps, Datsun family grille and masculine bumpers. The tall-boy look is likely to translate in to a generous cabin. The redi-GO is built on the same CMF-A platform seen on the Renault Kwid. This platform is really light-weight, which in turn will help the vehicle to achieve a higher fuel efficiency figure. redi-GO will come with the same (from the Kwid) 0.8 litre (800 cc) engine, which will produce roughly about 53 bhp and 73 Nm of torque. Datsun is reportedly developing a 1.0 litre 3-cylinder diesel motor, which will make its debut in the redi-GO sometime next year. Datsun hopes to generate Kwid like sales volumes with the redi-GO, and will have to price the redi-GO somewhere between Rs. 2.75 lakh and Rs. 4 lakh in India. Will redi-GO turn around Datsun's fortunes in India? What you will like about the Datsun redi-GO > Funky styling looks fresh and young. It's positioned as an "Urban Cross", so there are hints of crossover styling in this hatchback. > Decent seating space for four adults. Boot space is more than the Alto offers, but less than the Renault Kwid > 185 mm of ground clearance gives it good capability to handle bad roads. > Platform sharing with the Renault Kwid means the redi-Go also gets three-lug, 13-inch wheels with 155/80 R13 tyres that fill up the wheel arches nicely. > Demo cars had driver's side airbag as standard, which means safety has been given a lot more focus. > Front doors get pockets for storage, decently sized cupholder and bottle holder in centre console, little shelf above glove box and next to driver to store small items. > Proper parcel tray in the boot. > Daytime running LEDs on the demo car could mean this may be a standard feature on the top-end variant. > All variants get an MID with tachometer, fuel gauge, average consumption, instant consumption, trip and odometer - competition such as the Alto and Eon do not have such comprehensive instrumentation. > Top-end variant (the one displayed) gets a CD player with FM, Aux and USB. This is better than even the Datsun Go's system, which comes only with a mobile dock. What you won't like about the Datsun redi-GO > Non retractable rear seat belts in this car too (like the Go and Kwid). Competition like the Maruti Alto has the inertia reel type. > Non adjustable steering. > Thin sheet metal for doors and bonnet. Feels tinny. Doors are quite light and close with a thwack, not a thunk. Who should consider the Datsun redi-GO > Pricing is likely to be very aggressive, so expect the top-end model to be priced at about Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 3.75 lakh > Young buyers looking for a differently styled city runabout that looks sporty with a fairly decent amount of boot space. > Those looking at a second car in the family for city commutes. It's likely to be highly fuel efficient too. Demo car showed 29 kmpl on the MID, so expect real world fuel efficiency to be around 25-26 kmpl. We still don't have official figures for this. We'll do a detailed spec comparison with its rivals when Datsun releases them :) Follow this thread for more updates. Lots of photos in the posts below. Do check out this launch video by Datsun.
