More news: Maruti Suzuki will introduce about 15 new models in India by 2020. Of these, 3-4 will be designed and developed in India (using existing Suzuki platforms). The development will be done at Maruti's new Rohtak R&D facility. http://www.financialexpress.com/auto/news/post-brezza-maruti-suzuki-india-engineers-to-lead-development-of-3-4-products/221520/ The R&D facility at Rohtak is a study in itself!
Raman of Maruti said that his aim is to make the R&D centre a place where future models are developed for the parent. “The idea is to complement and enhance the work done in Hamamatsu (Suzuki’s main R&D centre). When we grow from here, we will be making all kinds of products for future growth markets of Suzuki,” he said. “The work that is going to happen in Rohtak will be unparalleled in India.”
http://www.livemint.com/Companies/Tws6kMddutrQIVJeXMKnbJ/Maruti-Suzuki-relaxes-its-work-rules-for-2000-engineers.html

CorsaVeloce Actually the interview was a juicy one, so I wanted more & more, that's why I felt it was brief! :D I'm glad you enjoyed it. I find the internal processes to be fascinating. However, I feel Maruti is the only car company in India that has touched the next level in terms of indigenisation of R&D and Design Capability. There may be others but I am not aware of them. As such it is a good direction for the future. Maruti is really doing well & I think even though I would not buy their cars, I'm certainly willing to put my money on the organisation!

rajnish, that interview was anything but brief :P It's a great piece though, it gave me a good idea about what goes behind 'making a car'. Literally. Maruti as a company has always come up with products that are completely aligned with customer expectation, and now we know how.
