Lovely to see the confirmations pouring in here as well as on the Terrain Tigers and ZigWheels Facebook pages. We're going to have a good time! Tomorrow, evening at 6pm we start with a Classroom session at Made 4x4 Concepts workshop in Vasant Kunj (Map in first post). There's not much parking, so you'll have to park on the road leading into Kishengarh, near A-block car market. Hitesh, who runs Made 4x4 Concepts, and I will conduct the session - it's very informal and we're looking forward to loads of questions and interactions - on just about any 4x4. You can see some of the parts as well of a 4x4 at the workshop. We'll then take our discussions to Cafe Connect, just a few metres away from Made 4x4 Concepts.

Then, on Saturday, we assemble at Terrain Tiger's den - at the end of Golf Course Road, opposite Hilton Double Tree Hotel (SEE MAP) at 7.30 am. The Tigers will take us along for an OTR where you can experience the practical side of 4x4ing. It's a moderate track - any 4x4 can do it, so bring your SUVs, all-wheel drive crossovers, whatever. Let's have some fun, folks!

What a weekend it was! Starting off, with the classroom session on Friday evening at Made 4x4 Concepts Workshop in Kishangarh, Vasant Kunj. Hitesh Madhok has a really nice set up with a basement full of off-road equipment and seating area, and a workshop on the ground floor. The evening started off with a whole bunch of 4x4 enthusiasts meeting up - around 25 odd folks. We had a presentation on the basics of 4x4s. That presentation is in the slides below. Those who missed it, take a look you may find it useful. It was great to have Sumeer Tandon, the man who built the RFC Challenge Force Gurkhas come in as our special guest to share his experiences too. Please feel free to ping us for any questions you have on the PPT below.

After Friday’s classroom session on off-roading at Hitesh's Made 4x4 Concepts workshop in Kishangarh, Vasant Kunj on Friday, all of us couldn’t wait for the next days OTR session with Terrain Tigers in Gurgaon.

The day started off early with Roshun and me driving towards the meeting point. The meeting point choc-a-bloc with off road machines of all kinds and what a sight it was. Soon after the whole group arrived, the ones who didn’t have off-roaders hopped into the many Mahindra Thars and Maruti Suzuki Gypsys that chaps from Terrain Tigers had brought. I hopped into abhimanyu’s almost-new Mahindra Thar.

We soon, headed to the trails we were supposed to devour that day. As we reached the trail, the group broke off into two - one for beginners and one for the veterans. After switching to 4L, we soon found a sandy patch and a couple of steep inclines to let the machines flex their muscles a bit. Neeloy from Terrain Tigers immediately took the role of a spotter and started guiding the Thars, Scorpios, Fortuners and a Pajero through ruts and inclines. We kicked up quite a lot of dust and most of the cars fared well on the obstacles that were lined up.

Then Neeloy came up and asked abhimanyu to take his Thar up a very steep incline. abhimanyu lined up the Thar and gunned it, but right at the top the Thar lost grip and couldn’t climb no more. We were told to roll back and attempt the incline again. Now, rolling down a slope the opposite direction is no easy task. I was scared to death as I couldn’t see one bit of where we were going and the fear of toppling over was overwhelming. After a long discussion on the right way to tackle the incline, we were off again and this time Abhimanyu gave it everything he had and soon we were over the incline. At this point I realised that nothing beats the sense of accomplishment and the adrenaline rush you get when you go over an obstacle without toppling over or hitting anything. What a rush!

Right next to the incline that Abhimanyu had negotiated was another one where the Pajero, a Fortuner and Roshun’s Red Beast Scorpio were trying to negotiate. After many attempts, the the Pajero got beached and Roshun had to take out his tow strap and rescue the beached SUV. Later, he took a couple of shots at the said incline but somehow none of the SUVs would go over them. So we backed off and went in search of more trails and obstacles to tackle.
Lining up to tackle a steep incline. There were steep inclines of all kinds to test the capability of the machines that took part.
