American manufacturer United Motors Global have unveiled their budget cruiser offerings: The UM Renegade Sport S, Renegade Commando and Renegade Classic, for the Indian market. The mechanical underpinnings of the three bikes are essentially the same, but tweaked to suit different riding styles they are suitable for.
The bikes are powered by a water-cooled 279 cc single cylinder engine producing a peak power of 25bhp at 8,500 rpm and 21.8 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. The carburetted engine is mated to a six- speed transmission transferring the power via a chain drive. The bikes are butch enough to feel like it is a big cruiser bike. There are a few places where the build quality needs to be improved. For example, the faux-chromed toolbox which looks cheap on the Renegade Classic.
With chunky tyres, beefy telescopic forks, the overall design of the Renegade series is reminiscent of Harley’s Street 750. UM have also launched a range of clothing and riding accessories to complete that ‘biker’ look. The bikes have the potential to give fierce competition to the likes of Bullets and Avengers. But will it carve its name in the market? Only time will tell.

JijoMalayil Sounds burly for sure! I think UM is the first manufacturer in India to bring a cruiser with a liquid cooled engine. But only a real-world test can prove how good these bikes are. I hope it does well in the market. Royal Enfield has been monopolizing the cruiser segment for too long now.Keep the rubber side down!

JijoMalayil 70 kph in first gear? That's crazy! A top speed of around 140 kph is not bad for a budget cruiser, I say! I just wish they improved the quality at the expense of a minor increase in cost.Keep the rubber side down!
