The price of this BMW GS310R has been announced for the European market. In Germany, the G310R retails at 4,750 euros (around INR 3.54 lakhs), marginally cheaper than its primary rivals like the Yamaha MT-03, Kawasaki Z300 and KTM Duke 390. Although power is lower as compared to the KTM range of 300cc bikes, it is the refinement and feel that I am looking forward to. The bike has entered manufacturing in the TVS plant in Hosur.

Here's some sad news for all of you who were hoping to get your hands on the new BMW G 310 R.
BMW has confirmed that the BMW G 310 R will not go on sale in 2016. Instead, the launch is likely to happen sometime in January or February 2017. The BMW G 310 R was developed jointly by TVS and BMW. TVS will produce the bike at its Hosur plant for the domestic and export markets. TVS had showcased the Akula 310 at the 2016 Auto Expo derived from the G 310 R. The Akula is likely to be launched in March 2017 and is expected to priced slightly lower than the G 310 R.

NikilSJ There is a silver lining to this decision, though. Since the motorcycle will be initially launched in a bunch of european countries, it is a good decision because the plants will be just about capable of catering to those markets alone. Adding the Indian market at the same time may prove to be too much for the Hosur plant to say the least. If the bike is launched in haste, then people may tend to get disappointed due to long delivery dates. Instead, postponing the launch makes sense because, by that time, the demand and supply will also balance out. 2017 is going to be a very interesting year because the updated Duke is also likely to be launched and we're looking forward to TVS' production version of Akula too!

The headlight and the front quarter fairing reminds me of Suzuki Inazuma 250. Launched at a time when performance segment was just beginning to catch up, the design and the price of the Inazuma were poles apart, and so not in a good way! It looked like a commuter but at around INR 3 lac, it was priced like a sport bike. That became Suzuki's perfect recipe for disaster, despite the motorcycle being being perfectly sound technically. Later, Suzuki slashed the price by one lac and even then it did not work in their favor. The bike was then discontinued and was forgotten into oblivion.
The two bikes next to the G 310 R- they look like the pre-production versions. One looks like a commuter bike, perhaps a face-lifted Star City? The other one looks like Apache RTR 200 4V, what with the sporty design and split seats.

JijoMalayil Wow, the exhaust note is amazing! It sounds more aggressive than the Duke 390, for sure!

I saw some news about BMW working on the Adventure version of the upcoming BMW 310 R, anyone have update on that?

I am looking to buy 300CC bike by end of year so wanted to keep the options open
I hope Akula makes to the showroom soon, as it took Auto Expo with its storm

Kapil_Kumar Yes, even I have read these reports. I am pretty sure they will launch one as the director of BMW Motorrad UK once told the media to expect other models based on the G 310 R to be launched in the years to come. If that happens, then it will be a proper rival for the Royal Enfield Himalayan don't you think?

BMW Likely to Launch GS 310 Adventure in 2017:

Word is that the adventure version of the highly anticipated G 310 R is likely to be launched in India sometime next year. The bike has been rendered by few publications and if the actual product looks like those renderings, then Himalayan is going to have sleepless nights! Here's the rendering from Indianautosblog:

The GS Adventure is likely to be equipped with a pair of long-travel inverted forks at the front coupled with a beefy monoshock at the rear. The engine is likely to be tuned for more torque at low revs rather than outright power. Raised exhaust, luggage carrier, pannier mounts and fairing/engine guard will make the bike a proper adventure tourer. The fuel tank is also likely to be upgraded for higher capacity so as to ensure greater range. Expect the legendary GS asymmetrical headlamp to be present on this bike as well. The GS 310 Adventure will probably command a premium over its naked sibling owing to all those adventure-touring-friendly bits. Royal Enfield Himalayan is the only bike available in the budget adventure touring segment. The GS 310 Adventure will be aimed at those who are looking for a capable tourer at an affordable price. Speaking of moolah, the bike is likely to be priced in the region of INR 2.5 lakh, ex-showroom.

Kapil_Kumar If you are looking for sportbikes, then I suggest you give the GS Adventure a skip. However, if you are willing to keep your options open, then I suggest you also look out for 2017 Duke 390. It is likely to come up with a host of improvements and features which will make it a worthy buy. Check out this thread to know more about the 2017 390 Duke. Cheers!

BMW G 310 GS Adventure Bike Spied:

Pictures of the upcoming adventure bike from BMW, the G 310 GS has surfaced on online and boy it looks damn cool! The bike has the distinct tall-boy styling of the GS series, thanks to the raised suspension, beak-like front fender, and a muscular fuel tank and a rugged tail mounted pannier frame. Have a look at the pictures:

The engine is likely to be tuned for more touring friendly ride. The suspension travel is also increased and the rugged tyres indicate good off-road capability, although spoke wheels would fare better off-road. We might get them as an option, I guess. The G 310 GS is expected to debut the 2016 EICMA show next month. This terrain tamer is expected to be priced at around INR 2.5 Lac and the bike's likely to be launched at the end of next year. Himalayan, the Germans are coming!

Note the long travel suspension on both front and rear. The front wheel is larger, at 19 inches whereas the rear wheel is likely to be the same 17- inch one as found on the naked version. I think the rear pannier is the one that's available as an option on the G310 R as well.

The front beak is more pronounced and looks more rugged than the one found in Himalayan. Expect the half-fairing to be protected by an optional grill, just like its bigger 1200cc cousin. I think it'll look even better with the grill.

Expect the all digital console to host a multitude of information like speed, gear position, odometer readings, trip meter readings, fuel level and the likes. I think the new GS Adventure will be available in India by the time KTM comes with the 390 Adventure. Himalayan will have tough competition in the future!

BMW Motorrad is likely to kick start their Indian operation in early 2017. The bike manufacturer is currently in talks of setting up dealerships across the country. "We are working on setting up new teams and dealerships for BMW Motorrad. Bikes to be launched by 2017," BMW India president Frank Schloeder was quoted as saying by Overdrive. The G 310R, undoubtedly the most awaited bike from the German, is likely to be launched in April 2017. The bike co-developed with TVS Motor Company will be produced at TVS’ plant in Hosur, Karnataka and is expected to come with a sticker price of Rs 1.8 lakh, a recent report said. The motorcycle has been undergoing testing in the country since February.

NikilSJ If they manage to launch it in April, then I feel the G310 R will face fierce competition from the 2017 390 Duke. The next-gen Duke is likely to be even more refined, courtesy the counterbalanced engine and the power delivery will also be linear, thanks to the inclusion of Ride-by-Wire throttle. I can't wait to see these two bikes in the flesh and do a comparo!
