• Confused: Ford Vs Fiat

Hi zigwheelers, This is Ronny again & i am in a deep dilemma & would require some help from you folks. Fizzy is going really well & has already clocked 59000 Kms in 3.5 Years. Since its a pre-worshipped vehicle it has aged quite early & it shows in the paint quality, however for me its not a major concern for me. I still enjoy every drive i have, a supercool AC, superb Go kart Handling & the connected feel of Pure Hydraulic steering. Car already had its 60,000 service & apart from regular service front suspension Link rods, New battery were installed. For complete updates on Fizzy one can follow the link https://www.zigwheels.com/forum/post...nthusiasts-car

Being only 3.5 years old the car may have be ageing & this could be having more powerful car in the market in the same price bracket & may be not having some features in my car. As this is the LXI trim of Figo it lacks power windows. So the itch for switching cars was biting me a lot & one fine Day i went to check out few possible options in the market. It was decided that it has to be a Diesel with current running & torque addict feel.

    New Gen Ford Figo
Coming from a Ford family, the standard has been set that the car should atleast be equivalent or more in terms of handling & build quality. While opening the doors of new gen Figo, it was immediately felt that the car has dropped some sheet metal. While the interiors looks good but the low build quality point was noted down. Continued ahead with the TD of the vehicle & i must say what a stonker of Diesel engine it was. The steering was felt on the lighter side may that's because it was a EPS unit & coming from Heavy hydraulic unit the change was immediately felt. Suspension was tuned for more mass market rather than for enthusiast. (Figo S wasn't launched at that time so could't TD at that time.) Being easier on the pocket & still having fun factor Figo was my first choice.

    Fiat Punto Evo
After Gautam Buddh ford we move ahead to Kashyap Fiat in Okhla-3. Kashyap being the oldest dealer of Fiat, we would want the car from them if the car was finalised. Fiat was chosen with Enthusiast taste + Fat discounts offered on Fiat cars anytime. I was put behind the wheel of Punto Evo Emotion 90 HP. Since the car is only available in 90HP tune they didn't had any 75HP Model in stock, otherwise i would have atleast TD it. Except for dimensions i had a feeling that i was seating in my own car with premium interiors. 90 HP punch was imminent (not as much as Ford's 100HP) & the car reserves its power in Mid to Top range. We are familiar with turbo lag of 90 HP VGT so no point discussing again & again.
Being a East Delhi resident, i was happy with kashyap fiat having workshop in Patparganj. Wait there was something i was not aware of. When i confirmed about there workshop in Patparganj, they told that they had winded up from there & the only workshop near East delhi was in Noida phase-2 or in Okhla Phase-3. I came disappointed out of the showroom & left for home.

Any other car wasn't considered as for my requirement car should have lower purchasing cost coupled with Good handling. So Grand I10, Elite I20, Swift, Polo was out of the list straight away for these reasons.

On my way back to home, Fizzy's Ac stopped working got that checked the same day, it was found that the blower motor has conked off & would need replacement. Upon more inspection tie end rods were found damaged (minor) & may require replacement. Total bill would come at Rs.20000 for all the work performed.

Now i am really in confusion whether to sell off fizzy to individual, Exchange fizzy with new car & if a new car than would it be a Ford or Fiat. The difference in pricing isn't much in these cars as the after discount Fiat is close to Ford in terms of On Road pricing. Suggest some good advice in this regard.

    Thanks & Regards
    Ronny

Hi Ronny Both your choices are good. Buy a Fiat if you are in a city and after sales support is good. An Urban cross will tick all your requirements. If you doubt over ASC issues at your place then go for a Figo. What figo lacks is that they have given electric steering over Fiat's Hydraulic power steering. Also the build quality is a downgrade from old figo. So you take a call. Both these cars are true VFM. Period.

      Ronny
Gud to hear that Fizzy is still going guns at 60k mileage, sad to say that you may have to wave her goodbye😥
I agree that Ford has shed some kilos in thier new gen vehicles, but this was attributed to fellow customers who said they felt like driving a tanker with older ford.
Fiat anyday is a great low cost city wanderer, but these days, there spare parts availability is a bit issue. Plus thier longetivity also has questions asked.
Being a Fellow Fordian, my heart goes out for Figo. And with thier additional initiatives such as happy pocket service and independent spare parts outlets, that extra bit of peace in your head also kicks in.

Ronny
If you are not sticked to only those 2 cars and dont have diesel as a priority you can have options like
1:BALENO RS
2:FIAT PUNTO ABARTH
3:POLO GT TSI..... And GT TDI
THEY Feel quite punchy but have a big price tag as compared with body siza and space.
Punto abarth is the hittest...... Not to say hittest but its hottest hatchback in terms of performance.
Yajat Polo Is straight away out of the list because of inconsistent service experience, unreliable tech & sky high price of spares. Baleno was Never on my mind as for being called as a true hot hatch there is much more than Baleno Should have. If budget did allow the first choice would have been Abarth. Cheers.
