The Tucson launch (October 24th) has been deferred by Hyundai in India. Reports suggest that the reason behind this move was the positive interest their recently launched Elantra has generated over the course of time, and launching the Tucson (few variants are bound to overlap with the Elantra's pricing) will cannibalise the same. But with this festive season, I think both models could have generated more than enough bookings for Hyundai.

JijoMalayil I think this is the only time Hyundai can cash in on the new Elantra. The D-Segment generally witnesses sluggish sales as customers overlook these sedans for more and more SUVs these days. The only time this segmnet witnesses any action is when a brand new product is launched. These cars generally sell in good numbers for the first 3-4 months and then fall out of favour slowly. So I guess Hyundai has made a good decision by delaying the Tucosn's launch and just selling the Elantra, that too during the crazy festive season where people buy cars by the shiploads. I'm pretty sure that once the Tucson is launched, the Enlatra will only manage to get a three digit sales figure every month.

After postponing the October launch for the Tucson, Hyundai India has now confirmed that the SUV will be launched on November 14. Earlier reports said that the reason for Hyundai to postpone the launch was the good response it has received for the new Elantra. Obviously, Hyundai is concerned if the launch of the Tucson will canibalise the sales of the Elantra. Watch out for CorsaVeloce's take on the Elantra on the forum.
