It completely depends on your requirements, the city you live in etc. I'll split up the advantages of both over the other, and then you can decide for yourself which one suits your needs better.
Looks: Both look good. Tiago has a more curvy, fresh look while Grand i10 has the nice fluidic look. Overall Tiago looks a notch better to my eyes with it's overall proportions. I even like the interiors of Tiago more than Grand i10.
Build Quality: Tiago is heavy and feels more solidly built. While Grand i10 interiors feel better put together and more premium.
Ride and Handling: Tiago trumps Grand i10 by a huge margin in case of ride and handling balance. Tiago feels more planted and confident, and soaks up bumps quite well.
Performance: The petrol engine in Tiago is good on paper, but with the heavy kerb weight of the car, it feels lacking. Grand i10 on the other hand feels better. None of the two are performance oriented anyway.
Features: Both the cars offer good amount of features on the top end variants. The Harman music system with 8 speakers and navigation is a plus in Tiago. Tiago also offers voice commands, but lacks on internal storage for music system.
Space and Comfort: Tiago, like all Tata cars is very spacious, specially the back seat. If you are looking for a family car, Tiago is more spacious and comfortable.
Price and VFM: Tiago is the clear winner. It's over 1.3 lakhs cheaper than the Grand i10, which is a huge amount of money. It gets more features, and is a bargain at the current price. It also offers a standard 3 year warranty period compared to 2 on Grand i10.
Brand Image: Hyundai wins hands down over Tata, at least for now.
Cost of ownership: Both the cars should be cheap to maintain. While Hyundai has a good service network now, same can't be said for Tata. The service and ownership experience of Tata cars hasn't been really well, and in long term previous cars did develop a lot of niggles. Things have changed recently with the Bolt and Zest, but it's too early to say how the cars will fair in long term.
That's all I can think of right now. In my opinion, Tiago is a better car overall. Just the Tata branding is going against the car. Finally it boils down to your requirements. If you have a reliable Tata dealer in your city, Tiago makes a lot more sense. I should mention, if you do opt for Tiago, buy it before Tata increase the price.
Hope this helps.
