Volvo has been trying to keep the upcoming S90 under cover for sometime, but now we have a pretty clear picture on how the car will look like thanks to these images of scale models that have been leaked online.
The flagship S90’s design stays true to the Volvo Concept Coupe and Concept Estate previews earlier. The example shown here is finished in Onyx Black and has the same front-end design as the new XC90. So the S90 gets a long grille with vertical slats, LED day-time running lights which Volvo calls Thor’s Hammer, chrome windowpane and a clean hood. At the rear, it gets an all-LED trail lamp unit with the clusters shaped like a question mark turned on its side. The bootlid is sculpted with Volvo lettering running across. It also gets dual exhaust tips.
The new S90 will be offered in two body styles - S90 (sedan) and V90 (estate). The car will be based on the company’s new SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform. The S90 will compete against Merc’s S-Class, BMW’s 7 series, Audi’s A8 and Jaguar’s XJ. The estate version is unlikely to come to India. Expect Volvo to price the car in the same bracket as it’s competitors.

The S90 will receive the same engine line-up and an 8-speed auto box as the XC90. The 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine will put out power outputs ranging from 190bhp to 400bhp depending on the variant.
