  • Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Brezza to be showcased at Auto Expo

Maruti Suzuki is likely to showcase its compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza (codename YBA) at the Auto Expo this year. The sub-4 metre SUV will take on the Ford EcoSport. Maruti is likely to retain the exterior design of its elder sibling Vitara which was launched in other markets earlier last year.

From the spyshots, it is quite clear that the Vitara Brezza will get a muscular face with sleek headlamps. Even when viewed from the side, the Vitara Brezza’s strong shoulder line lend it a butch look. This particular aspect will be very important if Maruti Suzuki aims at poaching buyers off the EcoSport.

The Vitara Brezza is likely to powered by the the 1.4-liktre K14B petrol engine churning out 95PS and 130Nm of torque but the engine of choice for Indian customers would be1.3-litre Fiat-sourced DDiS engine which makes 90PS and 200Nm of torque. The BoosterJET engine could also find a place under the Breeze’s hood if and when Suzuki plans on launching the engine here.

I like what I see. The Vitara Brezza will definitely be a hit with buyers. It will go head to head with the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300. Given a price range of between Rs. 7 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh, I think this would be quite a popular compact SUV. Only thing is, it may also cannibalize sales of the Maruti S-Cross.

Yes, the possibility of Vitara Brezza cannibalising sales of the S-Cross are pretty high. If it does eat into S-Cross' sales figures, can we expect Maruti Suzuki to give us the all-wheel drive S-Cross with the same price tag? Now that would be a fun car to drive and will also justify the steep price tag the S-Cross was launched with.

So it's official. Maruti Suzuki have announced that the SUV, codenamed YBA till date, will indeed be called the Vitara Brezza. It is likely to be previewed at the Auto Expo this year. Stay tuned for more updates.

I find it hilarious that Maruti is 'officially' announcing the name now!
I mean to call it an 'open secret' would be an understatement ! Any clue as to what engine options are going to be on offer with this? I was SO tempted to buy the older Vitara ( a pre-owned one of course) ( when I was looking out for a new car) because of that V6!

The names have a way of "leaking" out. As for engine options on the Vitara Brezza, I can bet my bottom dollar it will have a 1248 cc, four-cylinder diesel pumping out 90PS of power and 200 Nm of torque - yep, the so-called "National Engine" of Fiat origin, the humble 1.3 litre Multijet would definitely be on offer (in 90PS tune, if it has to compete effectively with the EcoSport, which is now 100PS). As for the petrol variant, it will have to be under 1.2 litres, as this is a sub-4 metre. So again, the humble 1.2 litre K-Series petrol from the Swift, pumping out 87PS of power is what is likely to make it to the Vitara Brezza. Any prizes for me, if these are right?
Transmission - Five speed manual for both, with the possibility of the AMT in either the petrol or diesel or both.

Maruti officially released a sketch teasing the Vitara Brezza. And that confirms the spy shots we've been seeing so far. Like I said before, this vehicle has potential. I think, Mr. Fox's take on engine choices is also probably what would be offered, given Maruti really doesn't have any others that can fit in that segment and be cost-effective. "Brezza" is apparently Italian for "fresh breeze". Hmm, food for thought.

Maruti should really consider getting the BoosterJet to India, but it is highly unlikely considering the fact that a similar engine like it - Ford's EcoBoost - hasn't really caught the fancy of customers.

Maruti Suzuki has teased the front fascia of the new Vitara Brezza. Looks quite nice, thank god it doesn't have a overdose of chrome on the grille!

Here's the first clear image of the upcoming Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Thoughts?

                    Wait! There's more!

                    and

A user from Team-BHP.com found these photos accidentally, some carfie thing (car+selfie, ugh!) created by some tech company for Maruti.

Anyway - most of the other details about the Vitara Brezza also seem to have been leaked by Overdrive:

Only diesel variants, powered by the familiar 1.3-litre Multijet motor coupled to a manual transmission, will be available initially - SHVS possible?

LDi, LDi (O), VDi, VDi (O), ZDi and ZDi+ variants. Naming criteria suggests that the Brezza will be sold through Maruti's regular dealerships and not through Nexa.

                    Check out the details below

Here's hoping the Brezza is priced competitively.

Folks at Hyundai have definitely got a reason to worry now. Let's just hope they don't price it like the S-cross MotuSid

The Vitara Brezza does look good. I hope Maruti doesn't skimp on interior quality like they did on the Baleno and S-Cross.
