The Mobilio didnt do well because it was just not good enough. Too narrow, too noisy, too compromised and too expensive for what it offered. These are fundamental issues with the Brio platform and no wonder all cars in this platform have struggled with the sole exception of the Amaze. The story of the BRV is on a very similar track and the fact that it looks funny does not help either.

The BRV will have a tough time in a competitve market. Why should I buy an expectedly overpriced and facelifted estate version of the Brio when there are so many good options available? Coming to prices, at what price would you be agreeable to buy this? This is expected to be priced at par with the Mobilio or higher. Even if Honda surprises us,

As a customer, why should I make do with this contraption when

    1. I need 7 seats -> Ertiga is cheaper, more spacious and proven. Option of stretching to Scorpio.or Innova
    2. I want a appealing pseudo SUV 5 seater -> Duster, Ecosport, Brezza and the temptation to push for the Creta or XUV. This doesn't even stand a chance
    3. I am a hardcore Honda fan -> Honda City iVTEC. 'nuff said.

Honda is doing with the Brio platform exactly what Tata did with the Indica platform. The Indigo Marina is actually a very good corollary here. They are insisting on beating what is now a dead horse, steadfastly refusing to come up with anything new and original and are dropping overall quality levels at the same time. This is showing the the fast eroding prestige associated of the big H.

Is the new Honda BR-V any different from its sibling Mobilio, and how does it fare against its strongest competitor, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga? As BR-V being an MPV, at the end of the day!

Let's look at the spec comparison. Except slightly larger dimensions and increased ground clearance and a 6-speed gearbox, the BR-V and Mobilio are almost identical. You get lesser fuel efficiency figure with the BR-V! Now the to the segment leader the Suzuki Ertiga, lesser engine output figures and dimensions. But note the price difference between the Ertiga and the Mobilio. With the BR-V, is likely to widen that difference. So, what will you pick?
