  • Exploring Big Boy Toyz - India's Largest Exotic Cars Showroom

I have always slowed down and rubbernecked Big Boy Toyz, an exotic car showroom on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road. It has always had a superb collection of Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Rolls Royce and Bentleys on display. I've also in the past visited the showroom a couple of times for a few events - occasions which have left me with a dry mouth at the end of it. That, was just a single floor showroom, that moved a kilometer up the road a little later to a slightly smaller location.

However, Big Boy Toyz has now got something fancier. A four-storey building that can house about a 120 cars in its 36,000 square feet of space. And not just any cars - the same exotic set of Audi R8s, Lambos, Ferraris.... Sigh! Last Saturday, we were invited to the inauguration of this new showroom of Big Boy Toyz. NikilSJ and I got there only to almost slip on our own saliva. Walking into the showroom, we were greeted by a Ferrari 458 in gleaming red, with a bright yellow Lamborghini Aventador to the left and Ferrari FF in pristine white to the right.
All the cars that BBT stocks are used cars that have been driven less than 25,000 km and are not older than model year 2012. Jatin Ahuja, president Big Boy Toyz says that on average many of his customers come in for repeat purchases, trading in their cars in less than six to eight months. He has about 50 cars in inventory and sells an average of a car a day - a target that he wants to increase to 2 cars a day soon. Mind you, these cars are all at an average price of close to Rs. 1 crore, resulting in a turnover of about Rs 200 crores a year.
Now before I bore you with more shop talk, let's get some of those beauties on to this page.

That is quite a collection. Ferrari FF, if I remember correctly has that weird 4WD system, that moves to RWD if you shift into 5th gear. That was a very complicated system, and whole point of it was to keep the CG low. Didn't really work very well though. 458 is a looker.

Yes, the FF came with what Ferrari calls the 4RM four-shel drive system. They claim it is half the weight of a conventional system. Here’s why - the FF has two gearboxes - a conventional 7-speed box at the rear and a front-wheel-drive transmission at the front of the V12 in line with the axles. The gearbox at the front can handle 20 percent of the torque output. It is driven by a conical gear off the nose of the crankshaft and has got two forward speeds plus reverse.
The system doesn’t work in the above fourth gear. Ferrari says the torque delivered to the wheels in the fifth gear can be handled by the rear tyres. This system not only makes the FF, faster off in a straight line but also usable in various conditions like ice or snow thus adding to the go-anywhere capabilities of the GT car.
Confused how a two-speed gearbox in the front can work in tandem with the seven-speed ‘box at the rear? Well, the front first is geared six percent longer then the rear second, and front second is geared six percent longer than the rear fourth. So the front transmission’s first gear covers the rear’s first and second, and its second gear cover’s the rear’s third and fourth. Complicated isn’t it.
Anyway, here’s a video of the Stig losing control of the FF on ice as he slots it into fifth. The FF bit starts at 3:10

The Yellow Porsche in the second photo and the Ferrari FF. I am weird, and I absolutely love the FF.

Now I have wasted 15 minutes configuring my own GTC4Lusso

As you may (or may not) have noticed - I like the colour black, with contrast wheels and a generally subtle exterior (on a Ferrari? HA!)

Red and Black - nice combo isn't it. Didn't go for the bright red as it'd have hut my eyes. The silver/aluminium trim nicely separates the two elements. The tachometer background HAD to be red - cause sportscar.

Red seats with yellow double-stitching and piping along with calming Blue inserts and bright yellow seat-belts. Sorry - the configurator had too many options to choose from and my brain may have been damaged a bit. Ooh, also white Ferrari prancing horse stitched onto the headrests. Yay!

I'll take the BMW i8 please. With all these banning sprees in India, I'll be in a safe place with the i8 and will look damn cool too! The lighting system alone in that thing is sheer engineering marvel. here's a video by BMW. I know it's off this particular thread, but it is so cool!

          Keep the rubber side down!

It's really a very very cool car. But why the gullwing doors, why why why. I hate those. Not that I could afford it anyway, but it just somehow makes it look more flash and stupid.

Akshat Pokhriyal A car as futuristic as this has to have stylish doors, in my opinion. I wouldn't exactly be using this car to potter around town for errands.
