I think you probably mean LEDs (Light emitting diodes) or HIDs (High Intensity Discharge lamps). DRL = Daytime Running Light. Between these two types of lamps, LEDs are better because of their instant on function. HIDs take time to warm up and don't take too kindly to being used repeatedly.

Halogen lights are what come as standard bulbs with most vehicles and conform to all legal norms. HIDs are legal only if they meet the lumens criteria and are supplied as original equipment with some cars. Same is the case with LED lighting. Now if you want an aftermarket solution, I would suggest going with LED lamps for the best brightness and durability.
