McLaren, the British supercar manufacturer, has revealed the P1 roadster that runs on electricity. This one costs a smidgen of what the actual supercar sold for - £375 or Rs 32,353! Alas, all good things in life that are worth having are either illegal, immoral or fattening as the wise Woollcott would say and this one is quite similar too. You see, McLaren will only sell the P1 roadster if you age is between three or six! Hmm, do six-year-olds even earn that much money?
Anyway, the unobtainable P1 electric roadster is a scaled-down version of McLaren’s P1 hybrid hypercard with the boomerang-shaped headlights, matte black alloy wheels, rear diffuser with a faux exhaust and the gorgeous butterfly doors too. And like the exotic, this one too gets never-before-seen (in a battery car for kids) features too. First, there is an all-new plug-in electric motor which is mated to a 3-speed transmission. Then you get the sole right to brag that this piddly little thing can hit its top speed in a mere 2 seconds! So what is the top speed then? Well, it’s an exhilarating (for kids at least) 4.8kmph!
Like any supercar, McLaren is offering these rich brats a few options too. Tick all the boxes and you tiny tot can travel around in style blaring out their favourite tunes through an MP3 player and stay cool with an air conditioner unit (activated by the Start/Stop button) as well. To ensure that these kids can drive at night, there is even automatic headlights!
The P1 roadster is only available with an open-top configuration. Colour options? There aren’t any. Your brat will have to settle for the one shade available - Volcano Yellow!
This is the first of many products that are yet to come which are licensed by McLaren Automotive and will be sold through select dealerships by October-end around the world. Even though it is for kids between the ages of three and six, the Brits say even young drivers above this age group might also have some fun with it. Hmmm, can I get one of these for a review please?
