If you own any of the following vehicles (currently sold in India), Congratulations! You are the proud owner of a proper SUV. Everyone else who may have bought a vehicle with the brochure claiming it is an SUV has actually bought a crossover. So, why did you buy a crossover? Vote below and comment!
What is an SUV - A body-on-frame vehicle which is designed to go off-road. Seen trucks with no body being driven on a highway? Imagine that, scale it back a lot, add a 5/7-seater body on top, off-road suspension and drivetrain (AWD/4WD) and some niceties (like seats!). Some of the SUVs in the list below are actually filled with luxury goodies - but that's beside the point. Example - Mahindra Thar.
What is a crossover - A car with added testosterone (in most cases). Most modern cars are based on a unibody chassis - there is no separate body and lower-frame. Crossovers use the lighter and more rigid unibody chassis to their advantage for on-road performance, handling and comfort while designers beef up their looks. Some crossover chassis can handle the rigours of off-roading too. Example - Renault Duster.
