Everybody Knows about the Bugatti Veyron, The very car which shocked the world with its fancy 1000 bhp output and made history with a top speed of 253 mph(407 kph) which was unheard of for a production car that you could buy, back in 2005. when I said you could buy, I meant those people who could afford a $1.7 million(INR 11.37 Crore) hyper car . Clearly, It was not a car for the average Joe.
The 'Bugatti Chiron' is the successor of the Veyron which takes every aspect of its predecessor a step further, even price . The Chiron which was launched in 2016 carried a price tag that translates to $2.5 million(about INR 16.73 Crore) at the current exchange rate.
The Chiron is meant as a very expensive engineering exercise, a showcase of the Volkswagen Group’s engineering and design talent at the highest level.
Sure you can argue that the Chiron is an evolutionary product, unlike the Veyron. It looks a lot similar, The electronically limited top speed is about the same, and a lot of the power-train and chassis components share similarities, but the Chiron is still an engineering nerd’s wet dream, even if it’s not as revolutionary as its brother. And at least until the Koenigsegg Regera gets launched later this year, it can claim the title of the most powerful car in production (Engine: 8 Litre W16 Quad-Turbocharged, Max Power :1500 PS (1479 BHP) @ 6700 rpm, Torque :1600 NM @ 2000-6000 rpm).
Yet while it does all of this magic without the aid of electric power, like many modern hybrid hyper cars, the Chiron is still all about moving the technological needle further. In this case, by offering an optional extra pack which takes the Chiron's top speed to a staggering "285 mph (458 kph)".
Willi is talking about Ehra-Lessien, their secret weapon in getting these huge top speeds(Volkswagen Group test track in Germany with a 9 Km straight stretch of road).
Who would actually want to take this extra option and go at 285 mph is still unclear. For the record, the Chiron is already 8 mph faster than the original Veyron and has nearly 500 more horsepower. Everything the Veyron did, the Chiron does better. The optional upgrade is more of a feel good factor or bragging right for the owners .

Wolfgang Dürheimer, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S., said at the debut:
That is what Dr. Willi Netuschil told Autoblog today, not exactly saying that 285 is even the top limit of what the car can do:
It is part of human nature to cross boundaries and set new records – to run 100 m faster than ever before, to fly even further into space and to enter new realms. This striving is also our driving force at Bugatti. The Bugatti Chiron is a $2.5 million dollar, 261 mile per hour (420 kph) hyper car, unless you pay even extra, in which case Bugatti will deem you worthy of doing 285 mph (458 kph).
That is what Dr. Willi Netuschil told Autoblog today, not exactly saying that 285 is even the top limit of what the car can do:
While other hypercar speed demons like the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder, and McLaren P1 employ some form of hybrid electrification, Bugatti has forgone that route again in favor of sheer old-school grunt. Topping out at 261 mph with the use of a second “speed key,” it can actually go up to about 285 mph if you want Bugatti to electronically unlock the Chiron’s full insanity. However, there are only a few places on Earth where that can be done.
“You have to remember how much greater the braking distance needed is at those levels. The Volkswagen Group’s track near Wolfsburg has a specially designed long straight that can be used for these type of high-speed stunts,” says Dr. Netuschil. “There’s also a military base in Germany we can get access to that has a long enough runway.”
