Some call it Godzilla and with good reason. It is a Japanese monster that has given the Germans, Italians and Americans a run for their money. It started life as a regular Nissan Skyline sedan in the late 60's and a few nips and tucks later it can go from 0-100 kmph in just 2.9 seconds. Ladies and Gentlemen, the 2017 Nissan GT-R is here. The latest edition of this supercar beater can be yours for just Rs. 1.99 crore ex-showroom in India, thanks to it being a completely built unit import. Still, despite that price tag, it's a car that you buy with your heart, not your head. It's a car that can thrill you on your drive to work and take you to the race track on the weekend.
The Nissan GT-R is powered by a 3.8 litre, V6, 24-valve, twin-turbo petrol engine that puts out 565 bhp at 6800 rpm and 637 Nm of torque. Every engine is hand-built by a specialist - a takumi. This is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and paddle shifts that can shift gears in 150 milliseconds! The car has an all-wheel drive layout for better traction. The car comes with 20 inch wheels and 255/40 rubber that keeps it grounded. The thrill factor continues with this edition of the GT-R too.
But it has been made even more comfortable. The seats are softer, the interiors feel more plush and the suspension has been tweaked for added comfort. It also gets minor cosmetic updates, including a new front bumper, vents in the bonnet, upgraded headlamps, new grille and added aluminium downforce slats.
Nissan engineers have given the car a fantastic weight balance. Take a look at the chassis layout with the gearbox at the rear and the engine up front for even weight distribution.
The instrument panel means business. Easy to read gauges with the tachometer quite prominent up front. It has a gear-wheel meshing into one another type of design.
And the heart of it all. The 3.8 litre V6, 24-valve, twin-turbocharged engine.
The car competes with the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo in terms of specifications and Jaguar F-Type in terms of price, and also probably the Audi R8, although that's far more expensive.
