Launched at Rs 48 lakh (ex-showroom), the new generation 2024 Toyota Camry now sports a never-before seen look inside out, upgraded feature-list, strengthened safety equipment, and an efficient strong hybrid powertrain. It is available in a single trim across 6 paint options. With the slew of upgrades, the price of the new Camry has gone up by Rs 1.83 lakh than the previous model. Now, let us shed some light on its detailed picture gallery.
While the Camry has been around for decades, since the late 80s to be specific, its India introduction took place in 2002. At present, Toyota has launched the ninth generation of the sedan that succeeds the previous model that was introduced in 2019.
The next generation Camry features a new design language of the brand in line with other latest models, such as the Crown. A keen eye person would also be able to spot the strong resemblance its front end bears with the new Prius.
Having said that, the overall design of the sedan is elegant with a touch of sportiness and cuts and creases throughout the body. There is a shark-inspired fascia complemented by a large grille and LED projector headlamps with C-shaped daytime driving lights.
The side profile of the new Camry looks striking thanks to the low-slung stance and sloping and lowered roofline. Plus, there are new 18-inch alloy wheels that gels along with the overall design.
Whereas, the rear end of the new model is a departure from the previous Camry as it boasts slimmer C-shaped taillights that are similar in design to the headlights. The India-spec 2024 Camry is available in 6 colours, namely Cement Grey, Attitude Black, Dark Blue, Emotional Red, Platinum White Pearl, and Precious Metal.
The interior of the ninth-gen Camry is as upmarket and modern as its exterior, featuring a minimalist layout and a dual-tone colour theme – brown and black. The latter is India-specific and is paired with leather upholstery and metal-finished inserts. The co-driver side part of the dashboard gets a funky styling layout that matches the design of a guitar fretboard.
Toyota has given it a dual display setup – a central information hub and a fully digital driver’s display. Another noticeable design aspect is an array of physical control for various functions, such as air conditioning.
The central console houses a sizable gear selector, two cubby holders, and switches for other controls, for instance, drive modes. Speaking of which, there are 3 modes: Eco, Normal, Sport.
Like the many high-end luxury cars, the new Camry, aimed at chauffeur driven owners, gets powered rear seats with a reclining function. For this, there is a touchscreen integrated into the rear armrest that lets the passengers control rear zone AC and other seat adjustment related features.
The new-gen Camry comes with a numerous features, including the said 12.3-inch screens, a wireless phone charger (Qi compatible), a 10-inch heads-up display, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone AC, a single-pane sunroof, and 10-way powered front seats with memory and lumbar functions.
Also on offer are 9 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera, hill start assist, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TMPS).
Plus, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features have also been offered, including a pre-collision system, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assist.
The India-spec Camry gets a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 187 PS and 221 Nm, while two electric motors coupled to a small battery make 136 PS and 208 Nm. It is to be noted that there is a new battery, two new electric motors, and tweaked system components.
Mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission, the combined output of the hybrid system stands at 230 PS with the front-wheel-drive (FWD) version. This also enables driving in an EV-only mode for several kilometres.
The new-gen Camry competes against the Skoda Superb, while the other options are the BMW 2 Series Grand Coupe, Audi A4, and Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
