One of the most popular segments in India, the sub-4 metre SUV has clearly dominated Auto Expo 2020. We got to see a total of seven new models debuting at the event. Kia Motors India has revealed the Sonet concept, while a close-to-production version of the Tata HBX has also been showcased. Meanwhile, Mahindra has revealed its answer to the upcoming Tata Nexon EV. So without further ado, here are the top sub- 4m SUVs we saw at this year’s expo:
Maruti Suzuki’s first electric concept, the Futuro-E made its global debut at the expo. It previews the future of mobility solutions. The Futuro-e is an SUV coupe thanks to its swoopy design. The front-end comes with a bold Suzuki logo and connected headlamps while the rear-end gets a boot spoiler. Other highlights include swivel seats and a digital centre console. The specifications of the Futuro-E are yet to be revealed. However, you can take a closer look at it right here.
Kia Motors India has showcased the Sonet concept at Auto Expo 2020. Kia India’s third model is expected to hit roads in July 2020. The Sonet will most probably be based on the Venue’s platform and could utilise its petrol powertrains as well. The diesel engine will most likely be a detuned version of the Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI engine. But how does the Sonet look in flesh? Take a look.
Tata Motors has revealed a close-to-production version of the HBX at the expo. Its styling borrows plenty of cues from the Harrier and Nexon. Inside, the HBX’s dashboard looks familiar as the steering wheel, infotainment system, and the climate control knobs are a straight lift from the Altroz. The production-spec model will most likely utilise the Altroz’ 86PS 1.2-litre petrol motor. It’s expected to debut before the 2020 festive season.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Petrol:
Maruti Suzuki has finally revealed the Vitara Brezza petrol at Auto Expo 2020. It utilises the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre K15B petrol motor that develops 105PS and 138Nm. Transmission options on offer are a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. Apart from a heart transplant, the Vitara Brezza sports a cosmetic update with new headlamps, tail lamps, a revamped grille, and new dual-tone alloy wheels. But when is it hitting showrooms? Find out here.
After a long delay, Mahindra has finally launched the eKUV100 at the auto expo. Priced from Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom), it’s one of India’s most affordable electric cars. The eKUV100 utilises an electric motor that develops 54PS and 120Nm. It draws power from a 15.9kWh battery pack and has a claimed range of 147km. Apart from an electric powertrain, the eKUV100 also sports new exterior design elements. Take a closer look here.
Mahindra has taken the wraps off a close-to-production spec eXUV300. Outside, it comes with new headlamps, a redone grille, and tweaked tail lamps. Inside, the eXUV300 comes with a larger infotainment system and a larger multi-info display. There are also lots of blue touches to denote you’re driving an electric XUV. Its technical specifications haven’t been revealed yet.
Another Mahindra sub-4 metre SUV that made its debut is the XUV300 Sportz. It comes with a brand new 1.2-litre T-GDI heart that develops 130PS and 230Nm -- 20PS and 30Nm more than the standard model. Further, the XUV300 Sportz comes with a host of cosmetic bits that differentiate it from the standard model. And more good news - this powerful sub-4 metre SUV will be launched soon. Details here.
