After updating the 3 Series earlier this year, BMW is all set to introduce the facelift of its GT sibling, the 3 Series Gran Turismo on October 19. The German automaker has been on a product offensive this year, having launched the new X1, the 520d M Sport and petrol-powered versions of the 3 and 5 Series.
The 3GT is a unique product as of now, since there are no direct rivals from Audi, Mercedes-Benz or Volvo. The GT aims at adding a dose of practicality to the sporty characteristics of a sedan. The design has long drawn divided opinions, thanks to the roofline sloping into a stubby high-set notchback boot. The silhouette has been left untouched, and updates include a pair of LED headlamps, foglamps and taillamps, as well as reworked bumpers. Compared to the standard 3 Series, the GT is 190mm longer, 79mm taller and 17mm wider.
On the inside, everything will seem familiar if you've been in a 3 Series. Goodies on offer on the India-spec model are likely to be identical to the sedan as well, that includes leather upholstery, electric seats, a sunroof and BMW's iDrive system.
On the engines front, we expect the 3GT to debut with BMW's tried-and-tested 2.0-litre diesel motor, that is good for 184PS and 360Nm. The four-cylinder engine will be paired to the ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic that channels power to the rear wheels. Also, do not rule out a '30i' variant for the 3GT, that will truly set it apart from its sedan sibling. The top-shelf petrol motor delivers 248PS and 350Nm, which should make it a hoot and a half.
The 3GT is expected to be offered in three variants - Pure, Prestige and Luxury - with prices starting around the Rs 45 lakh mark.
