The Activa has broken the 17-year monopoly of motorcycles on the sales chart, selling more than one lakh units more than its nearest rival
Activa is the reason scooters have become fashionable again

The Honda Activa is one of India's most beloved scooters. But this is not the reason it is being talked about today. The Activa is the one that made scooters fashionable in India again. This time around, it has become the highest-selling two-wheeler in India for the year 2016 (January-June period).

The Activa has broken the 17-year stranglehold of motorcycles when it comes to two-wheeler sales in India. In 2016, it has not just outsold motorcycles, but its nearest competitor is over a lakh units behind the Honda scooter in terms of sales. Putting this in numbers, the Activa has sold 1,338,015 units from January-June 2016. The highest-selling motorcycle for the corresponding period has sold 1,233,725 units, giving the Activa a lead of a little over 1,00,000 units!

The rise of the Activa to the top of the sales charts is quite remarkable too. Consider this - over the period of January-June 2016, close to 2 lakh more units of Activa were sold, as compared to January-June 2015.

Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, "Activa today represents the metamorphosis of the society. The superior convenience, unisex appeal coupled with product features (increased mileage, style and technology) has converted millions from pillions to riders. Honda's Activa has come to symbolize a remarkable blend of Reliability, Comfort and Convenience, Style and uncompromised performance. We thank our valued customers who have made Activa the most preferred choice of families for commuting in India. That's what we call Activating the Nation."
