Stefan Pierer, who heads KTM and sister firm Husqvarna has revealed to MCN that KTM is developing the new range of engines to plug the gap between small capacity singles and large capacity V-Twins.

“We will have a new KTM mid-class of bikes within around three years. We are looking at the way this will happen, but we are working on 600 to 800cc V-Twins,” Pierer was quoted by MCN as saying.

According to MCN, the new range of engines will also be available for use in the Husqvarna model range. The exact capacity for the smalles V-Twins has not been set yet, but it has been capped at 800cc for the largest, according to the report.

We’re not sure if KTM intends to launch these engines in the KTM range in India, considering final production is still a couple of years away. But seeing how KTM is developing its small displacement singles in India, the Austrian firm could well be looking at developing these middleweight V-Twins at the Chakan plant as well to keep costs low.

If that is the case, then there’s more good news for Indian motorcycle enthusiasts. Middleweight V-Twins is just what we’d like to see in the Indian two-wheeler space.
