Maruti Suzuki S-Presso: Variants And Features Explained

Maruti Suzuki has finally launched its first mini-cross hatchback, the S-Presso, in India with a starting price of Rs 3.69 lakh, going all the way to Rs 4.91 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It might look like an Alto on stilts, but it offers a plethora of features. It is powered by a new BS6-compliant 1.0-litre K10B petrol engine that develops 68PS of peak power and 90Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed manual and an AMT as well. 

The mini-crossover hatchback comes in a total of three trims and four variants: STD, LXi, VXi and VXi+. Of these, which one would be the ideal pick for you? Here’s a closer look at what each variant has to offer. 

1- STD

Price- Rs 3.69 lakh

We start off with the most barebones variant in the S-Presso lineup. Standard features include twin chamber headlamps, side body cladding,digital instrument cluster, bottle holder, sun visor and reclining front seats. It also gets basic safety equipment like driver airbag, ABS, EBD, optional passenger airbag, reverse parking sensors and speed alert system. However, it really is quite a bare variant as it misses out on features like body coloured parts (bumpers, OVRMs and handles), wheel covers and roof antenna. It is also completely devoid of an infotainment system along with other features like AC, power steering, front power windows, keyless entry and internally adjustable OVRMs.

Apart from that, its digital instrument cluster is limited to the basics devoid of information like fuel consumption and gear shift indicator. It is also limited to the 5-speed manual transmission. This would be the ideal variant if you are on an extremely tight budget and willing to sacrifice various creature comforts.

2- Lxi

Price- Rs 4.05 lakh

The second variant in the S-Presso lineup retains all the features from the standard trim but only gets AC and power steering as additional features. It still misses out on many key features like body coloured parts (bumpers, OVRMs and handles), wheel covers, roof antenna as well as an infotainment system. It is also only offered  with a 5-speed manual transmission. This variant is a very minor upgrade with a price hike that is difficult to justify with just an AC and power steering function being the upgrades. 

3- Vxi

Price- Rs 4.24 lakh (MT), Rs 4.67 lakh (AMT)

This variant of the S-Presso finally gets a host of additional kit that makes it akin to the high-end variant of the crossover hatchback. Additional kit on the outside includes body coloured bumpers, roof antenna and full wheel covers. Inside, it gets features like front power windows, keyless entry as well as an entertainment system that consists of SmartPlay dock, 2 speakers and Bluetooth/AUX/USB connectivity. Additional safety features include speed sensitive auto-door lock and central locking. Its instrument cluster also gets additional information that includes fuel consumption, gear shift indicator (MT), gear position indicator (AMT) and distance to empty. It is also offered with an AMT option. 

It does miss out on features like a touchscreen infotainment system, centre console garnish, internally adjustable OVRMs and rear parcel tray. Other kit not included is steering mounted audio and voice controls, safety features like low-fuel, door ajar and parking brake warnings as well as body coloured parts ( OVRMs and outside door handles). This variant is a welcome upgrade from the Lxi with a justifiable price hike.

4- Vxi+

Price- Rs 4.48 lakh(MT), Rs 4.91 lakh(AMT)

We finally head to the top of the line variant from the S-Presso trims, the Vxi+. This variant is fully loaded with additional kit like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, colored center garnish, internally adjustable OVRMs, and steering mounted audio controls. Other additional kit includes  rear parcel tray, safety features like low-fuel, door ajar and parking brake warning as well as body coloured parts ( OVRMs and outside door handles).
