In this edition of Zig’s performance testing comparison, we line up the Mahindra Scorpio N and XUV700 once again. While the previous report was with the diesel automatic powertrain, this time around, we have with us the petrol-automatic option. On paper, the 2-litre turbo-petrol engine teamed with the 6-speed automatic develops 200PS in both models. However, the Scorpio N is rear-wheel drive and based on a body-on-chassis platform, while the XUV700 uses front-wheel drive and a monocoque architecture.
What difference does it make on the road? Well, let’s find out:
Parameters |
Mahindra Scorpio N |
Mahindra XUV700 |
0-100kmph |
10.16 seconds |
9.48 seconds |
20-80kmph |
6.21 seconds |
5.85 seconds |
Despite both models using the same engine, it’s the Mahindra XUV700 that manages to beat the Scorpio in the acceleration run. We suspect this boils down to the fact that the XUV700 is based on a more car-like and lighter monocoque platform as opposed to the Scorpio N’s heavier body-on-frame build. Also, the difference in engine tuning is another reason for the XUV to post better timings. Plus, the Scorpio N was also a tad slower than the XUV700 in the roll-on acceleration test.

On paper, both SUVs have very similar braking hardware with discs on all four corners. However, the XUV700 has slightly narrower 235 section tyres against the Scorpio N’s 245 section shoes. Does that help in favour of the Scorpio N?
Parameters |
Mahindra Scorpio N |
Mahindra XUV700 |
100-0kmph |
45.98 metres |
35.48 metres |
80-0kmph |
28.14 metres |
24.89 metres |
Sadly, the tides aren’t in favour of the Scorpio N as the XUV700 posted significantly better numbers. The monocoque SUV has much more stronger brakes, however, both models have a reassuring feel from the pedal.
Mahindra Scorpio N |
Mahindra XUV700 |
|
Ex-showroom Price |
Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 23.9 lakh |
Rs 13.44 lakh to Rs 24.94 lakh |
In the confines of this test, it’s the more road-friendly Mahindra XUV700 that manages to come victorious. Its 200PS engine is quicker on the road, and you have better braking hardware to bring you to a halt from high speeds. However, if your daily driving includes a mix of rough and on-road terrain, you should consider the Scorpio N.
