S 1000 RR Key Highlights
Price: The S 1000 RR comes in three variants: S 1000 RR Standard, S 1000 RR Pro and S 1000 RR Pro M Sport. The standard Black Storm Metallic and Mineral Grey Metallic variants cost Rs 20,25,000 with Style Passion variant coming in at Rs 20,65,000. The S 1000 RR Pro costs Rs 22,15,000 for the Black Storm Metallic paintwork and 22,55,000 for its Style Passion variant. The flagship Pro M Sport variant of the bike comes in a single Light White/M motorsport colour scheme and costs Rs 24,45,000 (all prices ex-showroom India).
Design: With its mean looks, the S 1000 RR comes with a completely redesigned front end, having a bubble visor and winglets for better high-speed control. It gets an aggressive riding posture with its low-set clip-ons and rear-set footpegs (adjustable as an accessory). The bike has a flowing aerodynamic body and comes with a beefy tank. The flagship S 1000 RR Pro M Sport variant is a single-seater with the rear cowl having a camera adapter with the Standard and Pro models getting the same as an option. The bike has a sharp rear end with a detachable number plate holder.
Features: The S 1000 RR is a performance-oriented motorcycle that comes with all-LED lighting. It gets a new 6.5-inch coloured TFT instrument console which provides a tonne of information and has multi-controller switches positioned on its left handlebar. The bike comes with standard features like ABS PRO, Shift assist Pro, M GPS Laptrigger and a lightweight battery among others. It is also the first mass-production bike to come with optional carbon fibre wheels and even gets heated grips as an option. The bike also gets optional Cruise control, Brake Slide Assist, DTC Slide/Slip Control, Steering angle sensor and Dynamic Damping Control among others. BMW even offers a range of lightweight body parts with the flagship model, like M carbon wheels, M Sport seat, M brake calipers (blue), fuel filler cap black and M rider footrest system.
Engine: BMW S 1000 RR is powered by a liquid-cooled, in-line four, 999cc engine which produces 210PS and 113Nm. The engine is paired to a six-speed gearbox and the bike gets a Dynamic Engine Brake Control as a safety feature on all trims. The supersport has four riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic & Race) with optional Riding modes Pro on the upper variants. Suspension duties are handled by a 45mm USD front fork which is preload, rebound and compression adjustable, with rear monoshock getting damping adjustability as well. Braking is handled by a 320mm twin disc upfront and 220mm disc at the rear with multiple ABS modes. The bike rolls on 17 inch aluminium cast alloys which get wrapped in 120-section front and 190-section rear tubeless tyres. The bike has a 16.5-litre fuel tank and weighs 197kg (kerb). It has 140mm of ground clearance and a 832mm tall seat.
Rivals: The BMW S 1000 RR competes with the likes of the Ducati Panigale V4, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Aprilia RSV4 and the Honda CBR1000RR-R.
Variants: The three variants of S 1000 RR come with notable differences. The base S 1000 RR Standard variant misses out on features like heated grips, cruise control, Riding modes Pro, Tyre Pressure Control and Dynamics Damping Control unlike its Pro counterpart, the S 1000 RR Pro. Both variants also miss out on lightweight M Package parts which are exclusive to the Pro M Sport variant.
