Expert's Opinion on Creta Electric?

Tell Me About The Hyundai Creta Electric’s Looks!
Tell Me About The Hyundai Creta Electric’s Looks!
  • The Hyundai Creta electric’s core design is similar to the Creta petrol and diesel’s
  • The front end features a large pixel-patterned black panel instead of a front grille that makes the Creta Electric easier to identify
  • The charging port cover is integrated into this panel as are the active aero-flaps that open and close automatically, based on the car’s cooling requirements
  • Highlights include LED DRLs, LED headlights, LED taillights and dynamic turn indicators
  • The Creta EV has custom-designed 17-inch alloy wheels that have been styled to deliver better aerodynamic efficiency and better range
  • Available colour options include Atlas White, Abyss Black Pearl, Fiery Red Pearl, Robust Emerald Matte, blue and Ocean Blue Metallic; offering a good variety of subtle and spicy paint shades!
  • Battery pack protrusion is visible from the side profile, which makes the car look a little awkward
  • Unlike the Hyundai Creta N-Line, the Creta Electric does not get 18-inch alloy wheels
  • While it’s a good-looking car, it doesn’t look very unique in comparison to the Creta petrol/diesel
What’s The Creta Electric Like Inside?
What’s The Creta Electric Like Inside?
  • The Creta Electric’s interior design is a good blend of functionality and style
  • While the basic design is the same as the standard Creta’s, the cabin uses a lighter white and black interior colour combination that looks premium
  • For the Creta Electric, there are some small changes such as the touch-panel AC controls, the floating centre console and the gear selector moves next to the steering wheel
  • The Creta Electric also gets a new steering wheel with the letter ‘H’ spelt in Morse code instead of the Hyundai logo, which looks unique
  • The quality of the buttons on the steering wheel, the metallic finish of the gear knob and even the toggle switches of the AC console feel very premium to use
  • The plastic quality on the dashboard and doors could have been better. They don’t feel as premium as the MG ZS EVs
  • White interior upholstery can stain easily and this colour usually doesn’t age well
Is It Spacious?
Is It Spacious?
  • Yes, the Creta Electric is as spacious and comfortable as the standard Creta with enough space for a 6-foot-tall passenger to sit behind their own driving position
  • Headroom in both seat rows is good too and can accommodate tall passengers
  • While the presence of a battery pack has raised the floor slightly, the seats have been angled and slightly elongated to deliver good seat comfort and support
  • Three passengers of an average build can sit in the rear seat
  • The door pockets have adequate space for a 1-litre bottle and additional items such as cleaning cloths or a small umbrella
  • The new floating centre console provides a large storage space between the front passengers, large enough to hold a small bag of groceries
  • Next to the driver’s armrest, the Creta Electric gets two cupholders and there’s a small storage pocket under the front armrest too.
  • The 433-litre boot can accommodate two medium-sized bags and 3-4 soft bags
  • The gear selector’s placement on the steering column can make it foul with the knee of tall drivers while getting in or out of the car
  • One full-sized suitcase will take up almost all the usable boot space as the boot is a little shallow with the parcel tray in use
What Features Does The Creta Electric Offer?
What Features Does The Creta Electric Offer?
  • Fully loaded, the Hyundai Creta Electric gets the same features as the petrol/diesel Creta with some more goodies thrown in for good measure!
  • Both front seats are powered with the driver getting two memory settings as well as the welcome function (automatically pulls the seat behind when you open the driver door)
  • For chauffeur-driven owners, the front passenger’s seat can be adjusted using buttons on the side i.e. the “boss button”
  • Dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents is available and the AC’s performance is strong as well
  • The car supports NFC access, so you can use your phone as a key to enter, start and drive the car. This feature can be shared with up to 7 devices
  • Rear seat occupants get the benefit of recline adjustment, 2 x USB type-C charging ports, a rear armrest and roller-window sunblinds too
  • The 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system is easy and quick to use with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Music playback from the 8-speaker BOSE sound system is strong and you can enjoy a wide range of music genres with it
  • Other features: Front seat ventilation, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, tilt and reach steering adjustment, fold-out trays with cupholders for the rear seats and blue ambient lighting
  • The Creta Electric also gets the vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature, both in the rear seat and the charge port can be used via an adapter to charge laptops, mini-fridges, projectors etc
  • Wireless support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is missed
What About The Creta Electric’s Safety Features?
What About The Creta Electric’s Safety Features?
  • 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX and rear parking sensors come as standard
  • The Creta Electric also gets front parking sensors and a camera-plus-sensor-based advanced drive assistance systems (ADAS) package
  • Safety features include forward collision warning, forward collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, rear cross-traffic alert and crash avoidance, auto high beam assist, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, safe exit warning, blind spot warning and drive attention assist
  • It also gets a high-resolution camera with a blind-view monitor that shows the side camera feed on the instrument cluster when the indicators are used
  • Adaptive cruise control can feel too reactive on highways with heavy traffic. The nature of our traffic can trigger braking periodically which will feel unnatural at times
Will I Like Driving The Hyundai Creta Electric?
Will I Like Driving The Hyundai Creta Electric?
  • The Creta Electric gets two battery pack options - 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh with claimed range figures of 390-473km respectively
  • In real-world conditions, we expect a range of 300-320km and 380-420km with the smaller and bigger battery packs, respectively. This is with mixed driving conditions that include city, highway and hilly-area driving
  • Both versions make 200Nm of torque with the smaller battery pack producing 135PS of power and the bigger battery pack’s motor tuned to produce 171PS of power
  • In our experience with the Creta Electric’s top-end model with the bigger battery, it proved to be both easy to use and very quick!
  • City commuting is a smooth experience and overtakes at any speed are instant, even with a full passenger load
  • The SUV also gets 3 drive modes - Eco, Normal and Sport. Responses are sharper in Sport mode but the power is put down in a clean and predictable manner
  • You also get a wide range of brake energy regeneration modes, going from no regeneration at all to a full single-pedal drive mode
  • Like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Creta Electric also gets an Auto mode that applies regenerative braking by using the ADAS camera to analyse traffic ahead
  • Depending on the battery pack, an 11 kW AC charger can get the car from 10-100 percent in 4-5 hours
  • 50 kW DC fast charging (10-80 percent) takes 58 minutes
  • L Auto mode can aggressively apply the brakes at times, especially when there are motorcycle riders ahead weaving through traffic
Is It Fun To Drive?
Is It Fun To Drive?
  • The Creta Electric is easy to drive as the steering is light enough at city speeds and even parking is convenient
  • Even at high speeds, the car feels planted and predictable to drive
  • While the claimed 0-100kmph time of 7.9 seconds is quick, it still isn’t an enthusiast-pleasing SUV as the suspension and steering are tuned for comfort
Is The Creta Electric Comfortable To Drive?
Is The Creta Electric Comfortable To Drive?
  • When compared to the Creta diesel, the Creta Electric is roughly 150 kilograms heavier. To counter this weight gain, Hyundai has re-tuned the suspension and raised it a bit as well
  • The SUV’s ride quality is a little firmer than the Creta petrol/diesel’s but still deals with bumps and potholes well
  • Passengers are kept well-insulated from suspension noise and bump shock
  • The ground clearance on paper is 200mm (10mm more than the petrol/diesel Creta). However, with a full passenger load, oversized speed breakers should be taken slowly as the under-carriage can touch them at times
Who Should Buy The Hyundai Creta Electric?
Who Should Buy The Hyundai Creta Electric?
  • The Hyundai Creta Electric explains its value proposition in its name. The Creta Electric does everything the standard Creta does with a few more features thrown in to sweeten the deal further
  • Electric car buyers who want something that delivers a good driving range, quick but easy-to-manage performance and a feature-loaded package should definitely consider buying the Creta Electric
