The sub-4m sedan space on our shores recently welcomed two heavily updated models. Early last month, the 2024 Maruti Dzire was launched, that made headlines mainly for its five-star GNCAP rating. This month, the next-gen Honda Amaze debuted, which elevates its appeal with all its latest updates.
If you are puzzled about whose overall updated package offers more, we highlight 6 factors that give the new Honda Amaze an upper hand over its key rival, the 2024 Maruti Dzire.
When comparing the specifications of the next-gen Amaze with the 2024 Dzire, you will notice that Honda's sub-4m sedan offers a larger boot space of 416 liters than the Dzire's 382 liters. Although these are on-paper comparisons, stay tuned for our first-drive review of the new Honda Amaze, where we will test how many suitcases fit in its extra 34 liters of boot space over the Dzire.
The 2024 Maruti Dzire features analogue dials with a MID in its instrument cluster. While the new-gen Amaze comes equipped with a semi-digital instrument cluster featuring a 7-inch display, which looks more modern. This unit also provides additional vehicle info, such as G-meter readings, and can be customised to individual preferences.
With the new Amaze, you also get added convenience with the presence of a lane-watch camera. This system displays a live view of the passenger-side roadway on the infotainment system when the left-turn signal is activated. It is especially helpful when overtaking or parking vehicles in tight spaces to avoid blind spots. On the other hand, the Dzire features a 360-degree camera system, while the Amaze only gets a reverse parking camera.
Automatic transmission variants of the 2024 Honda Amaze come equipped with paddle shifters, offering a sportier driving experience by allowing you to change gears in manual shift mode. In contrast, the Maruti Dzire's automatic variants also feature a manual shift mode, but gear changes are made using the gear lever.
With the new-gen update, the Honda Amaze has become the first in its segment to offer ADAS, a feature the 2024 Dzire lacks. The Amaze's ADAS suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and frontal collision avoidance assist. Notably, both subcompact sedans come with six airbags as standard.
Maruti offers the 2024 Dzire with a new 82 PS/112 Nm 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, while the Amaze is powered by a 90 PS/110 Nm 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. The Amaze’s engine not only generates more power but, with the additional cylinder, it will provide better refinement overtime compared to the Dzire’s powertrain.
Additionally, the Amaze’s automatic transmission includes a 7-speed CVT gearbox, which offers smoother gear shifts compared to the Dzire’s 5-speed automatic gearbox.
Pricing-wise, the 2024 Dzire ranges between Rs 6.79 lakh and Rs 10.14 lakh (ex-showroom), while the new Amaze starts from Rs 8 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from rivalling each other, they lock horns with the Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor.
