The Prius is a legend in the automotive world. While it's famous for the eco-conscious people, it's equally infamous for the purists. India also got one generation of Prius hybrid and Toyota showcased the Prius Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with flex-fuel technology at the Auto Expo 2025. It comprises an engine which is capable of running on both petrol and ethanol, a battery pack and an electric motor as well. Once considered a weird-looking car, the Prius’ design has matured and come a long way with modern styling.
In this report, we take you through all the details of the Prius in our detailed image gallery:
The Prius’ design language is unique, with its sloping rooflines, and the signature large windshield. Up front, you get a minimalist and sleek design with stylish lighting elements. The low-slung bonnet further adds a nice touch to the design.
From the sides, it looks long (it is as long as a Harrier) and you can see that the window line gradually starts moving upwards as it moves towards the rear and this also makes the windows at the rear look small.
Door handles at the rear are well-hidden within the C-pillar.

The rear gets “Prius” badging and connected LED tail lights which give it a sleek look. Complementing the front windshield, the rear windshield also looks huge!
The Prius which is being sold globally, gets a sophisticated interior with a typical modern-day large screen, a quirky-looking driver’s display and plenty of storage space in the lower centre console.
It gets a chunky steering wheel with plenty of physical controls, and tastefully curated ambient lighting. It gets 8 speakers, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12.3-inch infotainment, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree camera and auto park.
One of the main strengths of the Prius lies in the powertrain department. It is powered by a 2-litre engine which can run on either petrol or ethanol. The engine produces 223 PS and 190 Nm and is assisted by a 160 PS electric motor which churns out 208 Nm. Thanks to the 13.6 kWh battery pack, it offers an EV-only range of 87 km.
While there is no confirmation yet about the Prius’ launch in India, it would actually make for an interesting car in India. It could be priced around the Rs 45 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
Fun fact: Toyota used to offer the Prius in India and since it was a CBU it had a hefty price tag (around Rs 40 lakh) and sadly the Indian audience could not see the value of purchasing one.
Should Toyota bring back the Prius to India? Let us know in the comments section.
