The Clan Shoes SNKR waterproof riding sneakers are priced at Rs 5,799

Wearing full riding gear is extremely important before getting astride a motorcycle. But sometimes, it is not the most practical option because of how bulky riding gear is. For example, you want to ride to work but don’t want to spend your entire shift sitting at your work desk in heavy and uncomfortable riding boots. That is where the Clan Shoes seem like a sensible option for daily use.

What we have for this review is the waterproof variant of the shoe which we thoroughly put to the test over the span of this monsoon season. I usually wear a UK 8 size of most brands and these did fit well in the same size. After use over the last few months, they felt even comfier as all leather shoes feel after they are properly broken into. The shoes resemble stylish high-top sneakers which is one of the main reasons why they will appeal to the youth. This stealth edition is blacked out with grey accents and I prefer it over a loud colour scheme.

Compared to the standard SNKR shoes, these waterproof ones are slightly heavier but worth considering if you have a long commute to work. With a 50km (to and fro) commute to work, these riding sneakers impressed me with their superb waterproof protection. Even through a full hour of riding through heavy rain, they kept my feet dry and that meant I could spend my work shift without a worry. Our roads are extremely unpredictable and we often pass through potholes or even have to cross roads that are flooded. Even with water splashing hard onto the shoes through these sections, they held up really well.

With waterproof protection, these riding sneakers are not as ventilated as regular everyday sneakers, but that is something you quickly get used to if they have become your shoes for daily commuting. In terms of protection, these shoes are CE Level 1 certified; they get TPU discs with foam padding for ankle protection, thermoformed toe and heel protection, and an extruded midsole for lateral protection. It also gets reflectors to give other motorists better visibility at night.

While these are specifically made for city commuting, I even tried them while out on a longer highway ride and they did manage to hold up quite well for over two and a half hours with heavy downpour. But as conditions got worse, water did start to seep into them. It is still impressive for shoes that are made for daily commuting but we recommend wearing proper riding boots if you are going to venture over longer distances.

Priced at Rs 5,799, they are really good value for money with the comfort, practicality, and safety that they offer. There are many sneakers available from top brands which are sometimes even double the price, but would get damaged quickly if they are used for riding and constantly get soaked in the rains. The Clan shoes on the other hand are stylish and rugged which makes them a necessity for daily commuting, especially during the rainy season.
