Despite holding immense pride in being the true pioneers of the country’s performance biking scenario, Bajaj has never lost sight of its stronghold in the commuter segment either and has aggressively worked at building on that loyalty through the expansion of its Discover range of motorcycles.
Now, available in 100, 125 and 150cc displacement models, the Bajaj Discover 125 was introduced for the very first time in April 2011. But, while its introduction filled an important product gap in the company’s urban class of city bikes, it essentially offered nothing significantly more than its 100cc or 125cc siblings. In just over a year of making its debut, the mid-range Discover model has gone through a major revamp and will look at making a new name for itself as the ‘Discover 125 ST’ (Sports Tourer).
Looking to override the average looks and minimalistic features that we associate with commuter bikes of the present day and age, Bajaj has introduced the 2012 Discover 125 ST model with a far more aggressive fairing with sharp edged headlamps that underlines its sporty look.
It won’t take you very long to notice the Monoshock Nitrox Suspension on this bike, simply because it would actually be the very first time you actually saw one on a 125cc motorcycle in the country. Other significant highlights on the ST model include a specially designed “Anti Vibration” frame for better stability, visually appealing slender ribbed alloy wheels and aluminum side sets and Petal Disc Brakes that improve overall safety.
Powered by Bajaj’s patented “DTS-i Twin Spark” technology, the Discover 125 ST’s four valve engine delivers 13PS @ 9000 rpm and 11Nm of torque, performance figures that currently top the 125cc motorcycle category.
Commenting on the launch of the new Discover 125 ST (Read : Discover 125 ST First Ride), K Srinivas, President, Motorcycle Business, Bajaj Auto Ltd. said, “We believe that the average Indian commuter has to compromise a lot for fuel efficiency. With the Discover ST we are making a statement that mileage need not come with boring design and outdated features.”
The region-wise pricing details for Bajaj’s first ever sports tourer for the country will be declared in the second half of June when the bike enters the showroom. For Bajaj fans with an appetite for something bigger, sportier and more revolutionary, the all new Pulsar 200NS will be finally be on display in Maharashtra showrooms by end of May and will be officially launched in the month of July.
