Mahindra’s new generation Scorpio has been an all round success for the Indian passenger car manufacturer. Not only has the Scorpio gone a little upmarket with its current generation, it has also improved by a big margin as compared to its competition. The only thing that has been really lacking in the Scorpio though, is the addition of an automatic gearbox. Now though, Mahindra will soon launch the new Generation Mahindra Scorpio with an Automatic transmission with both two wheel drive and four wheel drive options.
The Mahindra Scorpio Automatic will be available only in the top of the line S10 variant with three seating configurations. The seven seater option will get two variants just like the standard car i.e. with or without a captain seating option for the centre row. The eight seater S10 will also get the Automatic gearbox option. The S10 variant comes fully loaded with the likes of a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control and cruise control. The Scorpio automatic will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta diesel automatic.
The automatic transmission in the Scorpio will most likely be the same 6-speed automatic gearbox that has been used in the Scorpio for the last coupe of years. The gearbox will be mated to a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine which makes 120PS of peak power and 280Nm of peak torque. Expect the new generation Scorpio automatic to be priced at about Rs 14.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and sell well considering the fact that there is not much else in the market that offers a similar package.
