The new Toyota Innova Crysta is one of the most awaited cars of the year and has been confirmed for a May 2 launch. The new Innova will be more expensive than the last generation version and will also be slightly more spacious and more luxurious than ever before. The new Innova Crysta will also offer better performance with a whole range of new powerplants.
The new Innova Crysta is the firs major change in terms of looks that the Innova has had since its launch over a decade ago. It looks much more premium and has a large horizontal chrome grille, swept back headlamps and a set of large tail lamps at the rear. The side profile too is completely updated with a more refined and current appeal.
The Innova also gets a completely new dashboard that is modern and has a well integrated infotainment system with climate control in the central console. The steering wheel, instrument cluster and central tunnel with storage spaces too are new along with a set of new seats. The Innova will also be available with the popular 6-seater or a more practical 7-seater layout. The new Innova will also be a lot more spacious than its predecessor.
In terms of engines, the Crysta will come with two engine options, the new 2.8-litre GD diesel engine and a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine. Both engines will come with a choice of a 6-speed manual gearbox and the long awaited automatic too. The automatic is said to be the same 6-speed unit that does duty in the Fortuner.
As we mentioned earlier, the new Innova Crysta’s premium appeal will come at a higher cost. Expect the top of the line variant to cost as high as Rs 18 lakh with the base model of the car priced at about Rs 12 lakh or so. The new Innova Crysta will go up against a range of SUVs including the popular Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra XUV500 both of which come with a diesel engine and a manual/automatic gearbox.
