While it actually is a new generation for the Panamera nameplate, the changes look like a facelift on the surface

After taking the wraps off the third-generation Panamera globally back in late 2023, Porsche has now launched it in India with prices starting from Rs 1.69 crore (ex-showroom). There are a host of changes inside-out, and while we don’t get the goodness of the V8, the twin-turbo V6 that is on offer sounds plenty exciting. Let’s take a look at what’s what:

Design

Ever since its inception back in 2009, the Panamera’s styling has evolved progressively: from a chunky-ish 4-door saloon to a sleek one. A hint of that evolution is apparent in this third-generation avatar as well, which embraces a smoother, sleeker silhouette.

Changes at the front come in the form of a new bumper with larger air dams and updated Taycan-like headlamps. The profile is harder to differentiate from the outgoing one, but you do get new rim options (19-inch to 21-inch). The rear too follows the slimmer styling quotient with the sleek connected LED tail lights. They dial up the premium factor and accentuate the width of the car.

The Porsche design philosophy reflects instantly inside the new Panamera. The dashboard design is simple, which is dominated by screens – even more so if you spec the passenger display as well.

Despite the numerous screens, Porsche has integrated a dedicated section for the AC controls, along with physical knobs. However, the AC direction controls are accessible only via the infotainment screen. Why Porsche?

Four seats are offered as standard here, while the 4+1 layout can be configured as well.

Moving on to the features, there can be plenty of them if you don’t care about the cost of those optional extras. But it’s not like the standard list is any short as it includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, 10.9-inch display for the co-driver, wireless phone charger, 14-speaker Bose sound system, ventilation seat with massage function, ambient lighting and four zones of climate control.

Multiple airbags, ESP, a 360-degree camera, remote park assist and ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and more make up the Panamera’s safety kit.

Powertrain

2024 Porsche Panamera

The new-gen Porsche Panamera packs a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, which puts out 353PS and 500Nm. Power is delivered to the rear wheels only via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. While the 0-100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds is plenty quick, it still isn’t at the level of the 4-litre V8 hybrid powertrain, which does the sprint in 3.2 seconds.

While the powertrain is impressive, Porsche has fitted a whole host of electronic aids which help ensure that power is being put to the tarmac without any losses or funny business. Moreover, it gets something called Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which is an air suspension technology that allows for a smoother ride when needed, and a dynamic one asked for. This is standard, however, all-wheel steering is an optional extra.

Price and rivals

With a price tag of Rs 1.69 crore (ex-showroom), this new generation of the Panamera hasn’t got a whole lot more expensive than the outgoing model. Yet, there’s a whole lot that’s new on the 4-door sports sedan. How well does all of that work? Stay tuned to find out as we’ll bring you the first drive review real soon.

It only has a sole rival in the form of the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S e-Performance 4-door Coupe.
