Mahindra Thar to get interior update in India in 2015
The Mahindra Thar is a great car for someone who is looking for a fun automotive experience. With its retro looks, great engine package and overall appeal, the only thing that the Thar really lacks is a great interior. Currently, the dashboard that is available in the Thar is an adaptation of the one found in the Bolero VLX and has been made to fit onto the platform, albeit a little roughly.
According to an insider source, the Thar is due to get a major refresh on the interior front with an all new dashboard and centre console which in turn will make the car more livable as an everyday driver. The new updated Thar will mostly come with a soft touch dashboard which will be available in the CRDe version of the vehicle. The new updated Thar will also be equipped with more efficient AC controls and an updated infotainment system. The new 2015 Mahindra Thar will also come with a new centre console that will encase the gearshift lever, the four-wheel-drive lever and the handbrake along with a cupholder.
The new Thar is also likely to come with new, more comfortable seats both up front and at the rear. We also expect Mahindra to adopt some exterior updates to the new Thar like slightly wider wheel arches, newer tail lamps and slightly updated accent pieces on the body. That said, the retro body shape that characterises the Thar as a reincarnation of the original CJ Jeep is expected to stay unchanged. Mahindra currently sells about 400-500 units of the CRDe version of the Thar. We expect sales to rise nearer to the 1000 units mark if Mahindra adapts these changes and updates to the Thar.
