I agree with Shreyans. For 1100 km a month, you would be better off picking up a petrol sedan and in fact using that extra savings to keep it running. The economics of a diesel work better if you drive more than 50-60 km a day. And like Shreyans says, resale value of diesel cars may be effected if the NGT clamps down further on passenger diesel vehicles. Go for the Honda City petrol, it should meet your requirements. If you still think a diesel would suit you, then again the City diesel is decent, and relatively easier to maintain than a Rapid diesel especially with cost of spares.

Its actually quite simple 1. Your running does not warrant a diesel 2. You cant put a price on the smoothness and refinement of a petrol engine. The Honda iVTEC is particularly good at this 3. The City is very light and easy to drive and has a tight tiurning circle. It really lives up to its name and is an excellent choice for urban use. 4. Sales of the Vento diesel are suspended due to emission issues. Rapid shares the engine and will be also affected, sooner or later. Plus, concerns on registration of diesel cars being limited to 10 years are very real. Resale value will tank the moment this is implemented.

Richye_rich the Rapid is also the better built car among the two. The Honda may have more features than the Rapid, but I think you should consider safety first rather than features. If you need a GPS unit and a better infotainment system, you could always go for aftermarket ones. The Raid is more engaging to drive when compared to the City as well.
