Q.Royal Enfield Flagship (750 cc) Spied

The reason being, this bike will likely compete (at a much lower price point) with the Triumph Bonneville and Thruxton. I am hopeful this 750 parallel twin will be a turning point for Royal Enfield. The question is, when is going to make it to production?

Like Praveen pointed out, this engine was first spied two years back. Speaking to a couple of Royal Enfiled engineers a year back, I got the feeling that this engine will first be applied on the Continental GT and then probably a cruiser or anyother bike that Praveen says RE is working on. The reason why this engine would make perfect sense in the Continental GT is that the flagship RE could then target the Bonneville range with a much lower price tag. As far the fuelling system goes, it looks like a carb version rather than a fuel-injected unit. I guess only time will answer all these questions, but expect this engine to catapult Royal Enfield into an whole new segment dominated by other players internationally.

One of the biggest reasons for developing these this engine is to make an impact in the foreign market. So, the motorcycles are likely to be cruisers that can munch miles effortlessly on highways. Currently, almost all Royal Enfield bikes feel out of breath post 90 kmph, not to mention excessive vibrations. But this engine looks promising and I hope they come with counter balacers. Expect the motorcycle to cruise comfortably at around 120 kmph on the highways.

If they bring the carburetted version even as a cheaper variant, I am pretty sure riders will face carburettor synchronization issues à la RD 350 :p. I also think the GT is just a test mule for the engine. The actual motorcycle which will be powered by this engine will be a cruiser of sorts, or at least that is what I feel. I would love to see the 750 parallel twin on a Thunderbird! Expect the finished product to be launched by the end of 2017. I wish Royal Enfield irons out all the niggles in the 400 cc engine of the Himalayan and updates the rest of its portfolio with that engine, replacing the 350cc one. That'd be amazing!

The new 750 cc motor from Royal Enfield was seen testing for the first time in Spain recently. This motor will be responsible for powering the new RE flagship. As expected, this Royal Enfield prototype is largely based on the Continental GT cafe racer’s platform (we think RE is just testing the engine on the GT Continental and expect a radically different bike to hit production). This was spotted testing and along with this was the new Himalayan, which is all set to be introduced in select overseas markets. [ATTACH=CONFIG]n14320[/ATTACH] The 750 cc motor will be a parallel-twin engine (with twin exhausts) oil-cooled motor, and is expected to come mated with a 6-speed transmission. The prototype appears to be using carburetor, but we expect the final version to employ fuel injection to meet strict international emission norms. [ATTACH=CONFIG]n14321[/ATTACH] The prototype resembles GT Continental in most of its elements, gets spoke wheels, dual discs brakes, double pod instrument cluster, round headlamps, exposed frame, cafe racer type seats. What differentiates it from a regular Continental are those twin exhausts. [ATTACH=CONFIG]n14322[/ATTACH] This flagship from RE when launched will be pitted as a cheaper alternative to the likes of Triumph Bonneville. We expect it to be launched in India before making it to the overseas market like the Himalayan.
