Update: Royal Enfield has launched new riding gear in collaboration with Rev'it. The quality is much better, thanks to Rev'it. Bit expensive, though. I hope in the coming years Royal Enfield gives discounts on the new riding gear.

Royal Enfield riding Gloves and Jaisalmer Summer Mesh Jacket Review: Safety is crucial for motorcycle riding and wearing proper riding gear always make a world of difference in case of a crash. Royal Enfield has started a line of riding apparels and accessories, some of which not only has the cool quotient, but are also practical enough to make them sensible buys. Short Leather Riding Gloves: The short leather riding gloves are designed for maximum comfort without compromising on safety. It has carbon fibre knuckles and finger joints. There are additional EVA paddings on the palms. The gap between the carbon-fibre knuckle and the EVA padding underneath provides enough ventilation even in the harshest of summers despite the gloves being leather ones. The lining on the inside is done neatly and does not intrude your fingers. This is particularly rampant in the cheaper pro-biker gloves. During winters, it offers only moderate protection. It is advisable to wear thermal gloves underneath it so as to prevent numbing of fingers. The Velcro strap on the wrist can also accommodate the sleeve of riding jackets. Although, it is advisable to buy one size bigger for that. Pros: Carbon-fibre knuckles assure good protection Well ventilated Comfortable to wear Cons: Not enough insulation for riding in cold conditions Palms could’ve been grippier. Verdict: There are various gloves in the market that are more expensive and better than this. But after around 2500 km of usage, I can assure you the Royal Enfield riding gloves perfectly fit the bill for a rookie rider. Jaisalmer Summer Mesh Jacket: Royal Enfield has recently expanded its product line with a plethora of riding jackets, both protective and casual. The Jaisalmer summer jacket is perfect for riding in hot and/or humid places. It has an abrasion resistant polymer with nylon mesh which allows 80% air flow. The back, elbows and shoulders are reinforced with removable CE approved paddings. The neck portion is also cushioned for additional comfort. There are adjustable buttons near the elbows, forearms and wrists. Additionally, there is also a zipper provision at the back which helps the rider to attach his riding pants. Pockets on either sides and one on the inside are quite helpful in storing knick-knacks For night- riding, the jacket has 3M™ Scotchlite™ coating on the chest and arms which enhances visibility of the rider at night by reflecting the incoming light. Pros: Good ventilation and decent protection for an entry level jacket. Adjustable hip, zipped pockets are very practical. Overall fit and finish is good Cons: There should’ve been a provision for an optional thermal lining. This would be helpful for places with extreme climate like Delhi. Verdict: With good looks, adequate protection and great ventilation, the Jaisalmer mesh jacket is one of the best value-for-money products in the market, although it is facing tough competition from the likes of Cramster, LS2, etc. Image Source: Royal Enfield
