Yes, it is not a great car to look at but it gets a set of frugal petrol and diesel engines. We would also suggest you try out the new Aspire. The facelifted model looks quite good in our opinion and gets even more features than before. The new petrol engine is really refined and the diesel continues to be as powerful as before. It is also the safest car in the segment, especially in the top-spec Titanium+ variant. We would suggest you drive both cars back to back to find out which one suits your needs the best. Reshma | 5 years agoHello Roshun, I plan to buy a new car shortly. A decusion which i have been postponing for a year now. Reasons : liked polo gt but felt price was too high. Old Amaze liked looks but heard of new Amaze launch so decided to wait. New Amaze : just did not like the looks, thought the car was bulky compared to the sleek modern old amaze. It impacted my decision. I never had a car segment choice means for me a good sleek car, strong technically mattered more than whether it was a compact sedan, compact SUV or hatchback. Dissappointed with amaze i started my search all over again. I took test drive of toyota etios, honda jazz but the fact that these cars might not be as strong as amaze technically as they are old launches did not allow me decide. Read mixed reviews abt amaze though portals praised the car, read many users reviews where users pointed out few issues like noise on speed brakers, Ac issue, car not being shock proof, internal cheap material and few more. Though I know few ppl like to criticise plus there could be some cars having these issues it def was a negative. Looks again were adding to the dilemma for me. In last two months ppl suggested trying Tata Nexon and Ford Freestyle which were new launches so did that but somehow did not like these cars though a colleague who bought nexon was in love with it. The only thing I liked in Amaze was it’s feel which I did not feel in other cars.... now can u please help me decide. Which car as per you is the best of these cars or even any other car if to add to the list. Please guide. Is Amaze a good car as read negative user reviews now since car is almost an Year old people reviews matter. Looks def not very exciting for me but technically if I compare it with other cars... means engine wise or feature wise...is it better...whether drive is smooth..whether it gives jerks or has noise issues.also what about these negative user reviews. Dilip | 6 years agoHi Guys, I am planning to buy a car in the next two months. Here are my requirements: 1. Needs to be automatic and with good suspension, 2. Should be spacious. 3. I would be traveling around 60 kms (alone) on weekdays and around 20 kms on weekends (with mom and dad). 5. I will be using it mostly for city drive and occasional short distance highway travel. 4. Budget - maximum 12 lakhs OTR (Bangalore) Based on the above, I had shortlisted Tigor, Baleno and Nexon. However, I am now inclined towards Tigor, as I heard that Baleno's suspension isn't that great and Nexon's back is too flashy for my tastes. Should I go for Tigor AMT or would you recommend something else? Thanks! Dilip

However, the resale value of these are not as good as Maruti or Hyundai. The Swift is a great car, with good resale value, but the feature list and interiors have a lot of scope for improvement. The Grand i10 is an overall balanced car in terms of features, price, maintenance costs and resale.

With Ciaz, you get better ride quality, a spacious cabin and slightly more fuel-efficiency (SHVS-mild hybrid) when compared to Vitara Brezza. Test drive both vehicle back-to-back and see the difference. Do post your review afterwards. Cheers!

Abhinaba | 7 years agoHi, my father is looking to buy a new car. The only criteria he has is that it should have a smooth ride and should be the least bumpy. It will be a chauffeur driven car for the most part. He frequently travels to remote parts in Maharashtra where the roads are not very good (ground clearance may not necessarily be an issue. However, the roads are severely potholed to the extent that some parts don't feel like the road at all. My current choice is the Land Rover Discovery Sport, however, people have told me that luxury sedans like the E-class might be more comfortable (Is this true even for bad roads?). Kindly advice. I am open to any suggestion or make of the car.

Other than that I do not know of any other way of installing headrests on the seat. The Vitara Brezza's rear seats are not the greatest in the segment to start with, they are pretty rock hard and lack under thigh support. During out road test, I was constantly complaining about how bad the ride quality and seat comfort were at the back and had a back pain for the next couple of days.
GavinRebeiro | 7 years agoI recently bought a Vitara Breeza LDi (O), and really happy with it. It's just the back seat which has no headrests that worries me. I don't know why Maruti did not put a head rest into the back seat. It's so uncomfortable for my family. Is there anyone who can help me with this, or is there anyway I can insert headrests into the rear seat. Please help.

But the Uttar Pradesh government came out with a system where the owner will be allowed to transfer the number by paying an amount of Rs 25,000 last April. In Maharashtra, the fee is Rs 10,000 for doing the same. In Haryana, the fee is just Rs 500, but they will not allow you to transfer the number if the old car is more than 15 years old. I think there is a way around where you cancel the current car's registration by informing the RTO that your current car is in an irreparable state and at the same time keeping the RTO officer in the loop about this and ask him to help you out in getting the same registration for the new car. But expect it to be a tiring process. I'd rather get a new number as once the 10-15 year-old car ban comes i place, it will reduce the risk of being stopped by the cops every once in a while asking for your papers to check if the car is too old.

Starting with the Ignis, which is the newest car among your choices, it is a well rounded package and the top end petrol variant comes with a lot of kit as well making it good VFM, but it is a considerably smaller car as compared to the Figo and Polo. Given your budget, you would be able to buy the ZXi variant of the Ignis in 7 lakhs, whereas with the Polo and Figom only the mild variant would fit your budget. Rear seat is not very nice in the Ignis as well, and the Figo is better at that. The Ignis is similar to the Swift as they both use the same K12 engine and make the same amount of power. Also, since you have owned a bunch of Maruti Suzuki cars, I would suggest that you give some other brand a try as well. I would not suggest that you buy the Polo because of the 1.2 3-cyl petrol engine they have, it does not perform too well and neither is it efficient. You could consider the Tiago as well, the 3 cylinder petrol engine is turbo charged and is a brand new engine as well. I have driven the Petrol Tiago for a considerable distance and found it to be reall comfortable and efficient as well. You should test drive the Tiago and then have a look at the Figo as well. Should help you choose.

If you were to choose between the Elantra and City, it should be based on your preference in terms of features. The Elantra does come with the bigger 2.0L engine that makes for some good driving pleasure, but the base variant will not have many features like the City and also, efficiency of the Hyundai will be lower than the Honda as it is a bigger engine.

Even though the petrol engine is much better than the previous generation Figo's petrol engine, it still has a lot of scope for improvement as compared to the K series engine on the Baleno or the 1.2 engine on the Elite i20. The Elite i20 is a great car over all in terms of styling, features and quality. Being a Hyundai owner, you may also get better exchange benefits or loyalty bonus while moving from your Xing. The Baleno has better fuel efficiency on paper, owing to lower weight, however, in real world conditions there might not be a lot of difference. Being a Hyundai owner, you would also be familiar with the service experience of Hyundai. I would recommend the Elite i20 for the following reasons over the Baleno. 1. Better ICE. 2. Better interiors 3. Lower waiting period 4.6 air bags The Baleno is not a bad car by any aspect, but I don't feel the wait time is justified for it.

But, ABS has become a necessary requirement, which prevents your wheels from locking up during panic braking. I assume dual-airbags come standard in all the variants and when coupled with ABS can significantly reduce fatalities in the event of a mishap. Plus think of the extra goodies you get with the higher variant anyway. In my opinion, its worth the extra sum.

You can expect anything in the range of 50-60% of the value of the car after five years, provided that you have maintained it well. If you like the Ecosport, I suggest you go for it. What variant are you looking at?

In terms of build quality and toughness, the Polo wins over the Baleno hands down. But it only makes sense in case you plan to buy the GT TSI or the TDI variant. In case you are looking for a regular petrol hatch, I would point you towards the Baleno as it has more usable space and is cheaper to maintain as well.

I would suggest you take a look at the Suzuki Baleno and the Honda Jazz. Both get an extremely spacious cabin, excellent features and peppy engines. Both come with an option of a CVT automatic gearbox which is responsive and fuel efficient. Do test drive both vehicles and see what fits your requirements better. Do post your feedback.

If you want a fuss-free ownership, good features and cabin space, the Vitara Brezza makes a good case for itself. But it only comes with a diesel engine. If you enjoy driving, the Ecosport will surely excite with its great diesel motor, steering feedback, driving dynamics and features on offer. Maintenance costs maybe a bit on the higher side. But Ford claims that it is cheaper to own than the corresponding Maruti Suzuki Product. Can you guys please help me with this? There are a lot of options available and it's really hard to decide the best amongst them. We are a family of three. The car's usage would be mostly restricted to the city and we might the highways rarely. We don't want to compromise on the driving comfort. We might be doing around 100 km a week and not more than that. Our budget is around Rs 9 lakhs. We are looking for a petrol car as our usage is restricted. Having said that, I would also suggest that you give the Tucson a serious consideration, in case a 5 seater fits your bill. The thing about the Hyundai is that although it is a big SUV, it drives and handles like a sedan. Very comfortable for highway cruising as well as for bad city roads.

The Tucson is a great car for the highway and can tackle most broken roads that you can throw at it. Things I liked about the Tucson were the spacious cabin (the front seats are sublime and the cabin feels very German), the ride quality - doesn't bounce around like other traditional SUVs and the features on board (dual-zone climate control was simply blissful). Take a test drive of the Tucson and I can guarantee that you won't come back disappointed. The only downside is that you can only get five seats.

The diesel motor is extremely powerful and returns decent fuel efficiency. If you want a comfortable seven-seat MPV/SUV, check out the new Innova Crysta 2.8 and the Tata Hexa. Have you test driven any of these?

Compared to the other cars you have mentioned, the Ameo has the added advantage of a large boot too. Personally, if maintenance costs didn't bother me much, even I would choose a VW over the others. [/QUOTE_NODE] VW cars do have higher maintenance costs when compared to Suzuki/ Honda cars. But, if your heart says Ameo, I suggest you go for it. All these new cars come with 3 years warranty, which is extendable up to 5 years. Plus they also have maintenance packages, that significantly brings down the cost further. I suggest you talk to the VW dealer asking them to give a break-up of the exact service costs and intervals for Ameo and figure out the various service packs on offer. Are you going for the diesel variant?

In comparison most new cars are using other technologies for automatic transmission which are more fuel efficient. For example : Honda uses CVT for Jazz and Amaze. This gives better fuel efficiency than the manual transmission version. The Baleno also offers a CVT transmission which is very fuel efficient. VW offers DSG on Polo GT petrol and Ameo Diesel. Now, coming to your question, for Diesel under 10 lakhs, there are fewer options. 1. Tata Zest AMT 2. Maruti Swift Dzire AMT 3. VW Ameo DSG 4. Maruti Ignis AMT(also called AGS) 5. Mahindra TUV300 AMT 6. Mahindra Nuvosport AMT Among these cars I would recommend the Swift Dzire if you want to go for a diesel. If you want to stick with hatchbacks, then for now, the Ignis is the only option. However, if you are open to hatchbacks with fuel efficient petrol engines, you can check out the Jazz or the Baleno CVT.

I suggest you take a test drive of the same and see if it fits your requirement.

Both cars are exceptionally good. The Skoda, I feel, is the better of the two in terms of performance and build quality. The Octavia feels planted at high speeds and is very comfortable on the inside too. But it is slightly overpriced (above Rs 20 lakh on-road). If budget is a constraint, you should look at the Elantra. The new Elantra is a much-improved car than its predecessor. The ride quality and handling is the best among any Hyundai models so far. The Elantra too feels planted at medium to high speeds. The older car used to wallow a lot at high speeds. Hyundai seems to have stiffened up the suspension with the new one and that has really improved high-speed manners. The only downside is that you might find it a bit too stiff on broken roads at low speeds. Coming to the gearbox, the Elantra has a 6-speed torque converter that has decent shift quality. The Octavia, on the other hand, has the famous 7-speed DSG gearbox. This gearbox is super quick but more expensive to maintain. If performance and ride quality are your priority go for the Octavia, but if your main concern is cost of ownership and value for money, then gof or the Elantra automatic which is priced around Rs 18 lakh ex-showrrom.

There are two options here for you. You could either go for the Baleno petrol if you prefer a petrol hatchback. The Baleno is very spacious and comes with most features you could think of. If you need a sedan, you could check out the Ciaz. But word is that the Ciaz is getting an update soon, so it would be better to wait for that version. The new Ciaz will be sold through NEXa dealers like the Baleno with a much better customer experience. Maintenance costs for both cars are lesser than what you would pay for other cars from competitors like Hyundai or Honda.

The biggest issue with these cars is the space. Within your budget, you will get more spacious used cars. I would suggest going for a 3-year old Maruti Ritz - it is spacious, it has a tall-boy design, comfortable to drive, comes with a 1.2 litre petrol engine (same as the Swift) and shares a lot of components with the Swift. Maintenance costs are pretty low for this car. Another choice would be the Hyundai i10, instead of the Santro, and that's something you have already thought about.

The only thing is the suspension is slightly stiff so rear seat passengers may feel a bit uncomfortable. It has good ground clearance and handles well, so zig-zag roads and bad roads should not be much of a problem. As far as "farm usage" goes, I suppose you mean muddy rural roads - yes, it can handle that. However, since it is not a proper four-wheel drive SUV, if it gets into slushy or sandy conditions, it can get stuck, but moderate bad roads it can handle.

Jijo | 8 years agoKwid and Polo are from the different segment and there is a huge price difference between them. Kwid 1.0 litre have got good reviews. The engine is fairly responsive, handles okay and you can expect a good FE figure. Couple that with a roomy cabin, features on offer, and at that attractive price tag, makes it a great VFM product. Polo petrol variant has an unexciting motor that returns quite low fuel efficiency. Having said that, the build quality, handling and features (dual airbags, ABS) on offer is excellent. But for that, you will have to at least pay Rs 2.5 lakh more. Plus the maintenance costs will be significantly higher with the Polo when to Kwid. Now you have to make the choice depending upon your requirements. Cheers!

Responsive engine, light clutch & gearbox, well-weighted steering and balanced suspension. Tiago is more spacious and comes across as better value-for-money. The long-term reliability of Tiago diesel is a question mark. Basically, you look at it, it is the same 1.3 Multijet engine from Fiat with a cylinder less. The same 1.3-litre Multijet motor is found in a wide range of cars from Maruti Suzuki, Fiat and Toyota. In my opinion, there is nothing to worry, as long as you service the engine at prescribed intervals and use good-quality fuel all along. You can also go for the extended 4 year/1,00,000 kilometer warranty for some additional assurance.

With that sort of running, especially with bumper to bumper traffic, I would suggest an automatic diesel car. Check out the Volkswagen Ameo DSG diesel automatic, if you have a budget of about Rs. 10 lakh or so. It's a compact sedan (based on the Polo hatch).

The S-Cross is a much better built vehicle, far more spacious and feels really good to drive with good ride quality. The Brezza may be a lot cheaper, but it also is a bit more bumpy in ride quality, has a little less space and the cabin feels noisier compared to the S-Cross. My vote between the two would be to go with the Maruti S-Cross 1.3 Zeta. Both run the same engine and drive train, and maintenance would be about the same. Some parts of the S-Cross may be a little more expensive than the Brezza - like lights, fenders, mirrors etc, owing to the economies of scale between the Brezza and Baleno.

It can handle moderately bad roads, but if you are talking of really bad city roads like the inner roads in Gurugram for instance, which flood at the slightest rain, it might make more sense to pick the Ford Endeavour. The middle row in the Endeavour may not be as comfortable as the Superb, but you can also take solace in the fact, that come rain or shine, the Endeavour will get you home easily. If you are in the NCR region - there's a Ford Endeavour drive happening in Gurgaon for customers on Saturday. You should come and try it out.

The options are the Swift Dzire AMT and the Tata Zest XTA. Both these cars are quite good and come with Fiat's Multi jet diesel engine. However the Zest uses it with a VGT son manages to get 90hp out of it compared to Dzires 74hp. However the diesel versions are almost a lakh costlier than the petrol ones , almost 1.7 lakhs in Swift Dzire. Though the fuel efficiency for the diesel is higher especially with AMT, the service costs also are higher. Taking into consideration the initial higher cost and the higher service costs the Diesel would make sense only if you drive around 1800+kms a month. With the price difference between the fuels lowering, it may go upto 2000 so that the fuel savings match up with the purchase price difference. Also, the government bodies have got an anti diesel sentiment now with the diesel bans, so for long term petrols are a safer option. The Zest would be a good value for money car if you are looking for a diesel with good interiors and features. They would also be happy to give discounts. Tata faces a lot of issues with branding and bad reputation of its service. They have improved a lot in terms of service, but still the image persists.

Assuming that your usage is going to be only when you visit the country and fairly less per year, it would be better to stay with a petrol car. Most of the options are with 1liter petrol engines, which feel very puny. These include the Maruti Alto K10 AMT, Maruti Wagon R AMT, and Maruti Celerio AMT. All these cars have the same 1liter petrol engine which is good for the city but feels slow for the highway. For usage both in city and highways, the 1.2 liter engines fare better. For the the option would be the Grand i10 AT, and the Nissan Micra CVT. The Nissan Micra is a good package and a great seller worldwide. However, it has been a slow seller in India. That said, its a very good value for money package and also offers great fuel efficiency. The Grand i10 offers great interiors, but being a conventional 4 speed automatic it does lose on fuel efficiency. One more car, which has a great engine and quick gearbox is the Ford Figo AT, which comes with a 1.5liter petrol engine and a dual clutch automatic. This is one car which would not disappoint you in terms of performance, features and fuel efficiency, however the pricing may go above your budget. I would suggest you to try the Figo, Grand i10, and the Maruti Celerio AMT( as all have the same engines, need not test others individually). Regarding the Micra, it has a small dealership network and check it out only it you have a dealership in close proximity. You would be coming in the festive season so you would be finding a lot of discounts and offers everywhere. In terms of popular cars like the Maruti Celerio, Wagon R and Alto, you may not get many discounts. However, you can try to negotiate and dealers are usually happy to give free accessories or insurances. Taking insurance from outside instead of taking from the dealer will save you more. For cars like Figo, Micra and Grand i10 you can negotiate well. The Grand i10 is expecting an update soon so you can quote that to get a better discount. The Figo and Micra also are also sellers so you can try for negotiating for 5-7% discounts. The delivery period may be high, as dealers may not have a lot of automatics in stock. They will go high specifically for the Maruti and Hyundai cars. For Ford and Nissan you may get it easier. The booking amount is usually around 25-50k, but it all depends on the dealer discretion. The new Elantra petrol is actually the best of the lot here now, considering it comes with a 2 litre petrol putting out 154PS of power, which is better than what the Altis dishes out. Options in your budget include the Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and the Baleno. Out of all these, the Baleno has the highest efficiency and the lowest maintenance cost as well. The top spec version of the Baleno also comes equipped with some great features such as the Apple CarPlay and reverse camera. It is a smooth car to drive and really easy to live with. The i20 is also a great car, but does not have the rev happy nature of the Baleno or any other car. It is a slightly clumsy car, but comes loaded with the most features in this segment. It comes with Auto- headlamps, rain sensing wipers and other bells and whistles. You should test drive these cars and then see about which one suits your needs the best.

The GLA has a superb ride quality, but lacks some feature which the other two have and is also the smallest of the lot. The Q3 is a very efficient, comfortable car, but it is slightly dated now and due for an all new model quite soon. The BMW is the newest of the lot and is extremely efficient and great to drive as well, makes for a very good everyday car. But it is the most expensive of the three and in case you do no take the BSI package offered by BMW, it could get expensive to own in the long run. Styling wise also, the new X1 is an amazing car and does really stand out in traffic.

So I suggest you cross that off the list. The Mercedes GLA is a crossover based on the A-Class hatchback and that gives it quite a compact cabin to be honest. There is not much space in the GLA to ferry five people in comfort. The ride quality of the GLA too is very firm and not quite plush for a Three Point Star. However, it is the only SUV that comes with the option of both a petrol and diesel engine and both of them are quite good. The petrol especially is a good performer thanks to turbocharging - The inline turbocharged 1991cc 4-cylinder engine puts out a 183hp and 300Nm of torque and will hit a ton in 7.6 seconds. The diesel on the other hand is the turbocharged 2143cc inline 4-cylinder that puts out 136hp and 300Nm of torque. I'm not entirely sure about the running costs of the GLA, although I expect it to be lesser than the BMW. [USER="42"]CorsaVeloce[/USER] may be able to help you out on this one. The BMW is the newest kid on the block. The new X1 is a much larger car than its predecessor but only comes with a diesel engine - a turbocharged 1995cc 4-cylinder engine that puts out more power and torque than the Merc - 190hp and 400Nm of torque. It hits a ton in 7.8 seconds which quite fast for a small diesel engine. The interiors have been refreshed and you get a lot more equipment as standard on the new X1. You also get the option of choosing a 2WD or an AWD model which is good. I'd suggest you go for the AWD version which BMW calls xDrive. The interior, as I mentioned before, is much more spacious and plusher than the GLA and BMW seems to have rectified the hard ride quality the previous X1 had. CNG makes the engine run a lot hotter than on Petrol so the wear and tear also increases with age, since you mentioned the car is a 2005(12 years old) a thorough inspection is needed by a mechanic to ensure the car is devoid of any underlying problems(You need to thoroughly check condition of all the cars you are looking at. don't go by the seller's description blindly). which ever car you buy, factor in some extra money to fix it up if something goes wrong after purchase.

Ford Fiesta Classic can be had in you budget and even the mighty 1.6S Variant with bit of searching and streching a bit(~2.5 lakhs). The fiesta is good fun to drive and the air conditioning is really excellent. But maintenance and spare parts costs would be on the higher side and fuel efficiency will be lower owing to the bigger engine, in the ballpark of 9-11 kmpl overall. Also you would lose money when selling it as resale is not that great. Other options you can try are Swift Dzire(1st gen), SX4, Honda City(Dolphin model) etc. If you don't want expensive maintenance bills and downtime(Parts unavailability), stay away from Chevrolet's of all shapes and sizes, European models like Skoda,VW,FIAT etc, Mitsubishi Lancers, and many Other Luxury models which you had dreamed of once. These too good to be true deals usually end up with the user spending a ton of money and time to fix it upband later selling it off at a loss. Regards...

Most petrol cars are good for 400 - 500 kms on a single full tank and hence you would not be spending too much on fuel either. In 2 lakhs, you will be able to buy a better petrol cars as they usually sell for lower than their diesel counterparts. You might get your hands on a good Honda Accord or a Volkwagen Polo, which are superior cars than the Fiesta Diesel. You could also consider the Fiesta petrol, it will be a better alternative to the diesel as it will be more pocket friendly as far as maintanence is concerned.

If you prioritise after-sales service and costs the most - Maruti and Hyundai are your best bet, followed closely by Ford and Honda. Volkswagen service quality and price could be a bit higher - but the service interval is longer. Tata - you know how it is. If your dad wants his gizmos, the Zest trumps the rest. If he prefers safety - the Figo is the best. Here's how I would prioritise - Ford Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo, Maruti DZire and Tata Zest.

For a distance of 70-75 km a day, a petrol car would work out pretty expensive in the long run owing to the lower fuel efficiency and the slightly higher fuel cost. But if you want an automatic and a diesel there are only three options (diesel / automatic) under Rs. 10 lakh. You can get the Mahindra TUV300 AMT, the Maruti Dzire ZDi AMT, and Tata Zest (XMA and XTA) AMT variants. However, if you want petrol - you should also look at the Polo GT TSI (it's a great fun car to drive), but would be just over Rs.10 lakh on-road. It also gives about 10-11 kmpl. The most value for money petrol automatic is the Ford Aspire Automatic. However, it is not that fuel efficient - again giving a mileage of only 10 kmpl in regular traffic. But the savings on the purchase price would probably get you enough fuel for 2 years.

It has a really good engine & transmission combination, and is feature rich. However, what puts people off about this car is the pricing and the fact that spare parts are relatively more expensive compared to Hyundai / Maruti cars. A neighbour owns a Micra CVT (new gen) and he is really happy with it. He commutes from Delhi to Gurgaon daily and says this car completely suits his needs. Fuel efficiency is also fairly decent at about 12 kmpl in city traffic. As for fitting of CNG, as of now the Delhi government has stopped the retro-fitting of CNG on cars. Only cars that come from the factory with CNG kits are allowed. CNG kits in automatics won't really be an issue, as the car will compensate for the drop in power on its own. The Honda City is very well equipped and will give you additional features like a sun-roof as well as a multi-info display that will show real-time fuel efficiency. It also has a better infotainment system. These features are missing in the Creta. However, the Creta will give you better ground clearance and a higher seating position. It depends on what your primary use of the car will be. If it is mainly highway/ city driving, the Honda City is better as it has better handling and the suspension is more comfortable for regular driving. I think you have made a pretty good choice going with the Honda City VX (O) variant.

If you are going to run the car in the Delhi-NCR region, you will have to get a petrol car and CNG kit. Otherwise, you can get a diesel and realize better margins in the long term. The lowest maintenance costs among the four are with the Dzire and Aspire - cost of service is very low. Rule out the Indigo - as that is old. You could consider the Tata Zest instead. Honda Amaze is nice and spacious, but maintenance costs may be higher than the others. However, it is the most spacious car among the four. If you want low maintenance cost, and good space, take the Ford Aspire.

The diesel engine from the Swift is actually a Fiat engine. It returns around 23-24kmpl on the highway when you drive it with a light foot. Even if you push it hard, it rarely drops below 18kmpl. In the city, you'll easily get 17-18kmpl considering the traffic conditions. The next best choice in my opinion is the Ford Figo. A friend of mine recently bought one, we are waiting for it to run-in to do a thorough fuel efficiency test. Ford's 1.5-litre TDCi engine is slightly better than the DDiS/Mulitjet engine in terms of moise, vibration and harshness too. But the Figo is priced slightly higher than the Swift.

Each of them has their own strengths. The Maruti Swift is very popular mainly owing to Maruti's large distributor network and the sporty nature of the car. The Ford Figo has probably the best diesel engine among the four, with a really nice driving feel. If you love driving, you will love the Figo. Since you want fuel efficiency as your main priority, I would suggest choosing between the Honda Jazz and the Maruti Swift. Both are proven to give more than 18-19 kmpl in city conditions. If you can spend a little more, the Jazz is a better car here. Only issue, is that the Jazz engine sounds noisier than the Swift's diesel engine. Swift does not have too much interior space, but otherwise it's a decent overall car. In your case, choose between Jazz and Swift. Take a test drive of both and see. Third choice, Ford Figo.

Within that budget, look at the Maruti Celerio ZXI or the Hyundai Grand i10 Asta. They are easy to drive cars. Buy the manual transmission variant as you will need the practice for your future cars. Alternatively, if you are willing to pick a used car, buy a second hand Wagon R for half the price, get familiar with driving and sell it after a year or two. Maintenance costs and spares costs are minimal with it.

Check the engine number and chassis number match your invoice. Check fluid levels, especially oil and coolant. Collect these documents: Invoice RC slip Insurance copy Owners manual Service manual Warranty booklet Check for tool kit, spare, jack, jack handle Check battery number matches that in your owners manual. Although the new models have lost the charm the old ones had, it's now more practical, spacious and full of features. The engine is a marvel. Only problems I've had with the latest Honda city are the looks (Chrome slab in front). The suspension is on the softer side, so it rolls through corners. I think it's a bit overpriced too. You could get a similar specced version of Ciaz for less. Ciaz too, is a very good car. Only the engine is a disappointment. If you want good performance, opt for Honda city. If you want a more VFM option, Ciaz is the pick. PS: If you want a full fledged performance sedan, go to Fiat showroom, test drive a Linea T-Jet.

The Brezza is somewhat like a sheep in a wolf's clothing, underneath that giant body, is the same chassis and suspension setup that you would find in a Baleno or Swift. Out of the other cars that you have mentioned, I would strongly recommend that you choose between Ciaz Petrol and City i-VTEC. The Maruti Ertiga only makes sense if you have use for the extra seats, otherwise its not such a pleasant car to drive, especially the with the small engine offerings it has.

I have booked the Vitara Brezza, but disappointed after the test drive and it has only petrol mill. Can anybody suggest me a good car. I travel from Bangalore to Kerala once in a month and I hardly use the car rest of the time. I have finalised on Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and preferably the Maruti Ertiga since it is a dynamic vehicle. Can anyone really help me to buy car and I am looking for petrol with a moderate maintenance cost. Thanks Deepu
Akshat | 8 years ago[USER="1780"]Chishi[/USER] i20 Active is a very capable car, and it's best in segment in terms of interiors quality. But the petrol engine is a disappointment. It's the same 1.2L Kappa unit as in i10 and it feels strained on highways. It's adequate for cities but i20 deserves better. If you are going for petrol, Ecosport ecoboost will suit you best. I'd even go so far and suggest you to wait for the Fiat Urban Cross as well.

Kaiserketkar | 8 years agoChishi, The Brezza with it's conventional/ plain-jane looks will start looking dated a lot faster. If that is your concern, then the Brezza's not for you. And yes, the Ecosport has a lot more premium feel & refinement in the cabin. And the 1L Ecoboost petrol is a great engine. If your driving is only about 15km/ day then a petrol car would suit your needs just fine, and the Ecoboost is the best of them petrols.

I have already book brezza 25 days back but now a little confused after the test drive... Planning to take a i20 active test drive today... My daily commute is approx. 15 km and the car should have good ground clearance with comfortable ride Guys please help me clear my confusion with your input/suggestions. ..

[USER="8"]I Live For Speed[/USER] is a very happy i20 user and recommends it to everyone! The Vitara Brezza is only available in Diesel and now the waiting periods have gone up significantly. The i20 on the other hand has some nice discounts going on as it is facing stiff competition from the Baleno and Brezza. You should go for the i20 Asta, it comes loaded with features such as auto headlamps, auto wipers, touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control and the works! It makes for a great ar to drive and own. Also, Hyundai is known to keep maintenance cost extremely low, so servicing the ownership will be inexpensive.

With the reduced gap between diesel and petrol prices, it is not as heavy on the pocket as you may think. The new Octavia is a brilliant car and comes in both petrol and diesel. The Jetta and Octavia are very similar cars, but the Octavia has some of the newer features that you would not find in the Jetta. The A3 is good buy if you are looking for the premium brand feel, although it lacks space as compared to all other cars mentioned here.

If you are concerned about the boot space, the Ciaz has a larger 510 litre boot compared to the Brezza's 328 litres. The Ciaz also rides a lot better than the Brezza. People who have driven the Brezza have told me that the car bounces around a lot on the highways when not fully loaded and that sort of zaps the driver's confidence a bit.

Hemant | 8 years agoHey, my booked Brezza is at showroom now though now when I compare ciaz vdi+ vs Brezza ZDi, ciaz is almost a lakh cheaper given 5% vat is applicable in next few days and other discounts. Feature wise both car variant are neck to neck with only exception of alloy in Brezza. What suggestions from expert in this forum? I also read that although ciaz claims 28kmpl but in reality it is less than 20kmpl? Thanks
Akshat | 8 years ago@Mahesh, used cars are expensive in Bangalore. For a daily drive of around 35-40kms I'd suggest you try a little more comfortable car. Try and see if your budget allows for a used Swift or Ritz. Go for the petrol model. Both the cars are great to drive over longer distances and have good fuel economy. As for buying a used car, try and take a mechanic with you who can check the mechanicals of the car. All you can do from your side is check for any abnormal behavior while driving/acclerating/braking.

Go for a petrol-powered car as the price between perol and diesel these days is marginal. Service intervals for petrol cars are longer than that for diesel cars, so in the long-term it will come out cheaper as well. Honda's petrol engine is one of the best in the segment too and Honda cars are usually reliable as well. I am willing to buy a sedan and i have a budget of 10 lakhs. I would be buying it from chandigarh and would be driving to delhi atleast once a month, but otherwise for daily office use in and around NCR. I like Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Rapid in that order and these are the ones i selected. i also see a new rapid version and a new honda city 2016 being rumored to launch later this year. i am planning to buy this car in october but want to consider all options and secure in terms of booking. Please suggest the best car among these four. Also petrol / diesel whichever is recommended considering prices , maintenance, longevity of car engine and resale value. I plan to drive this car for atleast 6-7 years and 1500 kms per month should suffice including occasional trip to chandigarh from delhi and back.

Renault Kwid 1.0 AMT(Coming soon) Among these cars, of the ones available now, I would recommend the Wagon R. The Wagon R has options with AMT as well as optional safety packs. This gives you safety and convenience for a good price package. The vehicle is quite spacious and is very reliable. I would also suggest you to wait till the launch of the Kwid, and try it out before going for a decision.

If price is a deciding factor, the Brezza is about 3 lakh cheaper variant for variant. Now, look at power - the Brezza and EcoSport are fairly equally matched (See this link: [url]http://www.zigwheels.com/forum/topics/car-and-bike-research/comparisons/6181-maruti-vitara-brezza-vs-the-competition[/url]) . They both have similar power-to-weight ratios, so I don't think the Brezza would be a slouch in any way. Still, I'll wait for a proper drive in the Brezza to form a solid opinion. Our team is driving it tomorrow. If I look at power to weight comparison between a Creta 1.4 diesel (89 bhp / 1260 Kg kerb weight), it works out to 71 bhp per ton. But if I were to compare the Creta 1.6 diesel (126 bhp / 1290 Kg), then you get a pretty good 97 bhp per ton power to weight ratio - which makes it really peppy. So, yes, the 1.6 Creta will in theory smoke the Brezza. Similarly for the Duster, 85PS variant weighs about 1258 Kg, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 67 bhp per ton, while the 110PS variant gives it a power-to-weight of 85 bhp for ton. The other thing is that the Duster 110 and the Creta 1.6 have six-speed gearboxes, while the Brezza is a five-speeder. Still, you can't argue with the pricing of this compact SUV (and it is actually a compact SUV, since it is under 4 metres in length - the Duster and Creta are both over 4 metres).

Compare it with Swift/Dzire which has 74 bhp of power which weighs 1060 kilograms. Do you call Swift/ Dzire diesel a slow car? The cars mentioned are not real "SUVs". They are soft-roaders! The engine is very silent and pulls quite linearly. I won't call it sporty, but it's good to drive. The steering is pretty light. What's nice about the car is the rear seat space and the features it offers. Two of my neighbours have Hyundai Grand i10's - one has the Asta automatic and the other the Asta manual petrol. Also you get the option of an automatic or manual transmission with the petrol engine. I haven't driven the car yet, but reviews and reports suggest the petrol engine-equipped Grand i10 to offer very peppy performance for normal daily drives. But don't expect the car to be too quick on the highways though.

Try the Renault Kwid. Generous space inside, exciting design, efficient engine, good ground clearance and low cost of ownership are Kwid's USPs. Dynamics are good for a small car. The top end will cost you around 4.0 lakh on road in Delhi. The top end RXT(o) variant also gets driver side airbag and touch screen infotainment unit with navigation. Cons- 800cc engine is not quite responsive, but adequate for city usage. In short- Kwid is good value for money!

From your earlier post, I thought you were looking for an automatic? Since the diesel is nearly 3 lakh more than the petrol, it does not make sense to go for the diesel, given that the current price difference between petrol and diesel as a fuel is only about Rs. 9, the economics of buying a diesel don't work for you. The petrol is fairly linear - I won't call it lacklustre - but it's decent enough. Did you check out the Honda City like a couple of others had suggested?

The engine is also a very reliable Renault K9K engine. It is one of the best 8 seater options available cheaper than the Innova. It may be quoted higher, but it is going for large discounts and you can try to negotiate it in your budget. If that does not work out, you can consider the Chevy Enjoy. The Chevy Enjoy comes with the 1.3 Multijet engine. However, in terms of space and ride quality, the Lodgy is a better option.

The CVT would be better in slow moving traffic, as compared to the AMT on the Duster.It would also manage to get better fuel efficiency in slower traffic. As you drive 55kms a day, a Diesel would make more sense, and the Creta Diesel Automatic is an option you must consider. However, as the initial purchase cost is much higher, you may not be able to recover the extra amount spent. Also, with the emission norms getting stringent and the difference between petrol and diesel reducing, going for a petrol car, would be a safer option. I would also suggest you to go for the City CVT.

Although the Creta is a capable machine, the petrol motor on the Honda is far more refined than the Hyundai. Also, the CVT gearbox makes for an extremely comfortable drive at low speeds. The shifts are effortless and it is also extremely efficient while if driven moderately.

I know the 2 cars are in a different segments. My daily usage is 50-55 kms in Mumbai traffic. Need the car to be great with ride and handling. Do you believe i should wait for the New Duster AMT version as well or should i strectch my budget and go for Creta Diesel Automatic. Please suggest.

Vidit | 8 years agoHyundai has been testing waters with it's global model "i30" to see whether it would appeal to the Indian consumer. The car is being showcased at their stall at the expo and is grabbing a lot of eyeballs. Here is a quick look at the car. Essentially it looks like a bigger i20, with little to visually differentiate the two. [ATTACH=CONFIG]n4078[/ATTACH] [ATTACH=CONFIG]n4079[/ATTACH] The interiors are like a cross between the i20 and the new Elantra, with some bits also carried over from the Creta [ATTACH=CONFIG]n4080[/ATTACH] As of now, Hyundai has no confirmed plan for launching this anytime soon. However, given the growing tend for in India for big hatchback, they might consider it for a later date.

According to different used car valuations online, the max. price is close to 3 lakh rupees if the car is in excellent condition. 78 thousand kilometers is a lot for a car that is barely 2 years old. Please check for wear & tear, vulnerable items include clutch, brake pads & suspension. Better take it to an authorized service center before you finalize the deal!

Roshun | 8 years agoThe Hyundai i10 is now fairly old. Also, Maruti now offers airbags and ABS as an option on all variants of the Celerio, which definitely makes it the safer car, although in terms of build quality the i10 feels stronger. In terms of space, the Celerio has more luggage space as well. Passenger space is about the same. As far as performance and fuel efficiency go, if you compare the i10 1.1 litre and 1 litre Celerio, they are almost evenly matched. Overall, I think the Celerio would suit you better.

This year, in July, there was news that Maruti is planning to stop Ritz production in India as the Celerio / Swift / Baleno line up would take care of any likely sales losses. However, the Ritz is still available, although in limited numbers. Speculation was that production of the Ritz would stop by the end of the year, which could also mean financial year - so perhaps by March the company may take a call on it. As of now, the car is still available.
Kumar | 8 years agoSharing some information and experience after making the required enquiries about various vehicles in the taxi segment, it maybe useful to others. The Tata dealerships have flatly refused to give the Bolt, Zest or Zica for the taxi segment. If one has to use the Bolt and Zest for the taxi segment, they have to first make full payment to register it in white plates and then again convert it into yellow plates with the necessary re-registration and other formalities. Only the Indica EV2 is available for the taxi segment. Many taxi drivers/operators have said that there are some serious maintenance and quality issues with the Indica car and its parts (especially after 1-1.5 lac km) but the indica V2 (now the EV2 for the metro cities) being atleast about 80k -1 lac cheaper than the competition and easily available repair shops, it is the overwhelming preferred choice(about 75-80% of drivers/operators chose it) due to faster recovery of capital employed. The next favourite being the Swift Dzire Tour Diesel followed by few Ritz tour diesels. A couple of dealerships were ready to give the Grand i10 diesel and the new Ford Figo diesel for the taxi segment. At the time of the test drive the Grand i10 looked under powered in the city with 5 people and the AC on. The Ford Figo dealerships had a display showing the ownership/maintenance costs of the Aspire/Figo. It is working out to approx Rs.6500-7000/- per 10000 kms. Also enquired about the Maruti Swift diesel for the taxi segment, but the maruti dealerships refused it due to company policy. Only few big pan india taxi operators are using the Etios/Verito sedans for taxi purposes, probably due to the budget. Hope this information is useful. Have one query for our seniors/panelists. There was some talk about Maruti stopping production and withdrawal of the Ritz in some time, but could not confirm it. Could anyone kindly share any definitive information about this? I | 8 years agoThe reason I didn't find the Punto impressive was that is that my benchmark when you talk about a fun car is this [ATTACH=CONFIG]n2693[/ATTACH] it's my brother's car actually; funny thing is at the time we bought this he was split between, this and the ANHC ( this is around 2008) and I was trying to convince him to get the city. Now I feel like kicking myself for even suggesting so. I drove the Abarth and tell you what, there are things I love about the Abarth: 1) The torque and power ! 2) The brakes 3) The ride quality What I didn't like ? the interiors/ interiors quality, the stance and the driving position ( too high for me). The Fiesta obviously has lesser power and doesn't ride as well but when you talk about the fun aspect, the engine noise and the overall feel/handling of the car it's another story. While the Abarth has better ride and handles well it doesn't have the same road feel as you get in the Fiesta; you feel connected to the car when you're driving the 1.6s.

It perfectly fits your bill for a fast car with less consideration for FE. It's got rave review for ride handling and it's faster than most cars about double its price. Other options are figo diesel 1.5, polo TSI. Also upcoming linea abarth could also be considered.
JOY | 8 years agoI always have liked the stingray too.it has that fast and the furious : Tokyo drift Vibe to it especially in dark colors like Blue.It stands out.BUT If your drive consists of bumper to bumper traffic go for the automatic than manual.as you can always make your can look mean at a nominal cost anytime but y can't go automatic..So if its looks you are after buy the AMT in white or any color you like,give a painted gloss black roof-mirrors-spoiler-alloys(red lip optional) and voila you have a stand out wagonR with the convenience of an auto box.my 2 cents ... :)
Roshun | 8 years agoThat's an interesting choice, [USER="190"]Pbspring[/USER] . The auto-gear shift or AMT version of the Wagon-R is a smart choice for the city. It is spacious, easy to drive and gives good fuel efficiency. Between the Wagon-R Stingray and the regular Wagon-R there is not much to really choose from. It's a personal choice. If you like the styling of the Stingray (projector headlamps, clear lens tail lamps), go for it. Mechanically, the Stingray is identical to the regular Wagon-R, so availability of parts won't be a problem. And Maruti won't discontinue it any time soon. The Wagon-R StingRay VXI Option (with airbags and ABS) is the best variant to pick in your list.

Shortlisted AMT version of Wagon R vxi optional, Stingray VXI optional and Celerio ZXI optional. Finalizing stingray due to slightly distinct front and all black interiors at almost same price of regular Wagon R (avoiding Celerio due to inferior interiors, seat quality and no adjustable headrest and lack of so many features in amt zxi optional version compared to MT like no alloys and no seat height adjust). Since its very rare to find Stingray on road and may be discontinued in near future (probably not in 1-2 years as amt is just launched), is it safe to go for Stingray over regular Wagon r?

Kaiserketkar | 8 years agoAs with any all-new Tata or Mahindra, I would hesitate to go for the initial batches of the car, wait for a few months to let the issues be solved and then buy a sorted car afterward. My pick would be the Bolt, the slightly pricier Verito Vibe or the Etios- in that order.
Jijo | 8 years agoSoon to be launched(20th January) Tata Zica can also be considered, frugal motor(1.05 Liter / 70PS), generous space, compact dimensions & loads of features! Expected to be priced around 5 lakhs for the base diesel model. Try it out!

It is fairly cheap to buy, has plenty of interior space (same as the regular Verito/Logan) and comes with that brilliant 1.5 litre diesel engine that is a work horse. After the 1.3 litre multijet that has been called the "national engine" by some enthusiasts, the 1.5 litre Dci found in all the Renault and Nissan vehicles is one hardy engine - Micra, Pulse, Scala, Sunny, Duster, Terrano, Fluence, Verito and Verito Vibe, all use the same engine in different states of tune from 64 bhp up to 110 bhp. Mahindra service is fairly decent. Look at EasyCabs and Meru in Bangalore - most of the cars are either Verito or Etios.

This car is also low on maintenance, it is spacious enough for five with luggage and gives pretty good mileage. It may not have the robust body you would expect from a Toyota, but I have seen Liva's with over a lakh km running without any fuss. The car is well built mechanically, and all it needs are regular services. Parts are not that expensive either. Besides the Verito Vibe / Indica Vista / Bolt mentioned above, you could also think of a Ford Figo (new model) if you want to have a different sort of fleet, although there are not too many Figos in the taxi segment.

If you want to try out a bit more the 1.5dCi engine in the Verito(Logan) is another taxi favourite.it is found in hatchbacks such as the Pulse,Micra,Verito Vibe etc but all these would cost more to maintain in the long run than TATA as the spare and service costs are higher.

I | 8 years agoI'm back to where I started; I had driven the GT TSI when I was looking for a new hatchback and discounted it since I had the Fiesta which was as fast , sounded WAY better and felt sportier handling wise. Karma has a way of coming back at you. ( As [USER="88"]Stig-Wannabe[/USER] suggested , I ended up buying the 'more rounded' up package - Elite i20 , great bang for buck!)

Issues starting from bumpy ride to interior rattle are very common in that model. Having said that, the new Figo with the 1.5 VCT is a great deal. For less than 20km of driving, it fits the bill perfectly. Its got 112 ps of power, with a brilliant dual-clutch transmission which made its debut with the EcoSport. And given the love [USER="8"]I Live For Speed[/USER] gives his car, the Ford will make for a trusty companion.

Vermavarun1122 | 8 years agoLots of people get confused when it comes to buying a car. Just analyse your budget and your need - whether it should be an SUV, sedan etc, and go for the best deals and discounts. There are many portals which are providing great discounts on top selling cars.
