If my memory serves me right, Fiat Chrysler had back in 2012 intended to assemble the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Grand Cherokee in India [which would have priced them much more sensibly]. But after 4 years of dilly dallying, they got them via the CBU route. Now if the Compass were to suffer the same fate even a SKD, [God forbid] imagine what the prices would look like. Looking at things, it's difficult to imagine the Compass competing against the XUV. I just hope they undercut the Endeavour and the Fortuner. The smaller SUV coming after than (based on the Renegade is what I hear) will probably be positioned in XUV500 territory. I doubt FCA will be able to even go after the Creta or Brezza with it, given the pricing on some of their latest products.

I'm becoming more and more certain that the Jeep Compass will be positioned against the Toyota Fortuner and the Endeavour instead of against the XUV500. Although, if it were indeed positioned against the XUV500, it might be a hit, and it might just sell more than all Fiats combined! ;) But unfortunately, Fiat India have never been known to take market friendly decisions and initiatives, so there's a good chance that if something's going to work, they will shy away from doing it. :( Of course this is all speculation, wishful thinking and fear expression, but in that case, would the sub-compact Jeep due next after the Compass be positioned against the Creta, instead of the Vitara Brezza?! :O

AutoHome once again reports that the new 2017 Jeep Compass will be produced in atleast 3 variants named as Sport, Longitude and Limited. The entry level variant named as Sport is differentiated from the next variant Longitude as well as the top end variant Limited by a number of features.. The India bound Jeep Compass has already been spied in Brazil during its photoshoot. Now a new image has surfaced online, revealing its rear end design. This is one very good looking SUV! Maybe Fiat can even get away with charging a bit of a premium for it. But my fear is that this will be positioned to take on the Fortuner, the Endeavour and the Pajero Sport. It'd be very unfortunate if that happens. However if they keep it in the XUV500 territory, they might even get away by charging a slight premium on it. I too like how it's turned out. If this SUV is really launched in the 17-20 lac range, it'll give the XUV500 a real run for it's money. Hopefully it will be fully feature packed because the Indian customer wants his dose of gizmos, whether he will use them or not is besides the point :) If FCA taste success in India with the Jeep Compass in this avataar, it might give them more impetus to work hard on the sub-10 lac SUV.
