Its not only in Tata, in every car, timely maintenance and needy maintenance is necessary to keep the cars running in mint condition. It has become a habit for us to service the vehicle only when it shows some sign of malfunction or issue or sometimes when we hear some unusual noise. In case of Tiago, to reduce the maintenance in engine compartment, they have worked on the Timing belt too. Earlier Tata cars had issues. But seeing the number of Tata cars being used in the transport segment, one can easily say that they have brought down the costs of spares and services.

This year, Tata has moved up in the JD Power rankings as well. It is now No. 3 after Maruti and Honda in the after sales service ranking. As far as parts are concerned, spares are not that expensive. Yes, Tata had plenty of issues with their earlier vehicles, but the newer ones such as the Zest, Bolt and Tiago have been quite decent. Cost of servicing would be more or less similar to Maruti.

It fits you perfectly if you are looking for a car only to move as a family from one point to another and least bother about the safety and features. But its a no nonsense car. Kwid has a baby SUV stance, but to keep the costs in check, there are many places where you can see the quality of fit and finish has been compromised. Tata Tiago will be a better fit with its array of features and technology laden. No other cars give you the pleasure of enjoying music in a Harman Kardon. Take a test drive of the same and you will never regret for choosing one. You can select the variant based on the features you will need in your car.

However, if possible, you should look at getting the next trim level - the XT - as this comes with more features than the XM variant at a nominal cost (Rs 30,000 approx). With the XT, you get a more premium upholstery, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear parking sensors and the best-in-class Harman music system that sounds terrific. This system also gets you FM, Bluetooth connectivity, i-Pod connectivity, AUX and USB inputs and the Juke app to stream music from multiple phones. However, you'll still have to shell out extra for the safety features just like on the XM. If your budget permits, this is the variant to go for. The next best bet would be the Hyundai Grand i10 hands down. It is one of the very few Hyundai's I like.

It has excellent offers at the moment and features a peppy and smooth 4 cylinder motor which is not there in any of the others mentioned here. BUT if you have the patience to wait, the Tiago is an excellent car. Grand i10 feels premium in terms of quality inside out, and has better fit and finish. Regards... I am glad that you are looking outside the box at other options here. Between the three cars, the most technologically advanced and feature-rich car is the Tata Tiago, believe it or not. This is one Tata car that really has good potential. It ticks all the right boxes as your first car. It is spacious, smooth to drive and fairly powerful. If you want to be different, this is the car for you. The Renault Kwid is fairly popular for its looks and ground clearance, but it still is fairly rough. There are some obvious cost-cutting areas in the car, which the company needs to fix. If you want a "safe" bet, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R is a no-brainer really. This car is like an appliance (I have owned one for 14.5 years now). It just needs regular service and keeps on running. Only thing is it's a bit boring!

The space, features and the ride quality on offer also trump the other two. Tiago also handles well. Do take an extensive test drive of the same and see if you like the same.
