Ampere Primus First Ride Review | Range, Performance, Features | Can It Take On Premium E-Scooters?

Ampere by Greaves Electric Mobility is known for their budget friendly low speed electric scooters. But now, with their first fully in-house designed and developed e-scooter, the Primus, the company is planning to take the fight to the more established premium players in the electric scooter market such as TVS, Ather, Ola and Bajaj. The Primus joins the Magnus EX and Zeal EX as the company’s flagship e-scooter and is priced at Rs 1,09,900 (ex-showroom India).

The Ampere Primus gets a mid-mounted 3.4kW PSMS motor with a peak output of 4kW, which is fed by a 3kWH Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) battery. With these specs, the Primus is aimed at the more affordable versions of the electric scooters such as the base TVS iQube and the Ola S1. Ampere claims that the Primus can accelerate from 0 to 40kmph in 4.2 seconds on to a top speed of 77kmph and says that it will do 107km on a full charge. Full charging time, Ampere claims, is about 5 hours using a standard 15-amp home socket.

We had a small first ride of the Ampere Primus around the Greaves Electric Mobility factory in Ranipet near Chennai and these are our first impressions of this e-scooter.
