The Tata Punch and the Altroz share a lot. They both originate from the Tata Alfa ARC platform, are similar in dimensions and are even priced just Rs 20,000 appart. It’s even possible to pick the same engine from their lineups. But that’s where the similarities end. The Altroz offers buyers two additional engine options - a turbo petrol and a diesel. While the Punch offers an additional AMT automatic transmission, a convenience that the Altroz still lacks. The Punch is positioned as a tallish ‘tall-boy’ hatch with some SUV in its DNA, while the Altroz is a more conventional large hatch. Their similarities were enough to bring them together for this test and their differences are enough for us to be curious enough to put them through a handling, ride and braking test.
