The Ultraviolette F77 was a long time coming. Since we originally rode the bike in 2019, a lot has changed in terms of the internal hardware. At the moment, it is India’s first and only electric sportbike. So in that sense, it does carry a lot of weight on its shoulders, not the least of which is its own heavy kerb weight of 207kg. That’s thanks to a massive 10.3kW lithium-ion battery pack - the largest on any Indian electric 2-wheeler, which weighs about 65kg. Armed with this powerpack, the F77 promises an IDC range of 307km. And thanks to its 29kW electric motor, it can dash from zero to 100kmph in just 8 seconds on to a top speed of over 140kmph.
There are some sophisticated underpinnings as well, such as a rigid trellis frame, a 41mm preload adjustable USD fork and a 320mm 4-piston radial front brake. On our first ride, we go to experience the bike on the tight corners of the Mecco Kartopia go-kart circuit, followed by a thrilling ride up and down Nandi Hills. So while we couldn’t any questions about its real world use cases, we did answer one serious question - “Is it a proper sportbike?”
