- Vespa electric scooter will come by 2022
- 🏍️ Aprilia RS 150 plans have been scrapped for mid capacity motorcycles
- 🏍️ Aprilia Terra 250 might come to India as well
- Aprilia SR 160 and SR 125 updates expected in 2021
We got a chance to chat with Diego Graffi, CEO & MD of Piaggio India, the parent company of Aprilia and Vespa, where he spoke about the company’s future plans for the country. The most immediate things we’ll see from the company would be a fairly major overhaul of their Aprilia SR 125 and SR 160 scooters. These have been updated to BS6 and have got a few new features already, but in 2021, we’ll see the new generation of these scooters. Piaggio also has big plans for an electric scooter, which will be completely made in India. This electric Vespa is currently in the feasibility study phase and could go into production in the next couple of years. As for small capacity motorcycles, the RS 150 and Tuono 150 concepts which were shown in the 2018 Auto Expo have been scrapped in favour of larger capacity engines - something in the range of 250cc to 300cc. These motorcycles will be based on a new global platform, and will be produced in India for sale in the Indian market. And as for more long term plans, there is also some talk of even larger capacity scooters coming to India. So check out this interview for more details!
