Along the Aprilia SXR160, Piaggio also showcased the Vespa Elettrica electric scooter at the Auto Expo 2020. The electric scooter gets a brushless DC motor which produces 4kW of peak power and 200Nm torque at the wheel. The Vespa Elettrica gets a claimed range of 100km and it comes with a charging time of 4 hours. There are two riding modes in the Vespa Elettrica: Eco and Power. The top speed of Vespa Elettrica under Power mode is 70kmph whereas under Eco mode, it is 45kmph.
The Vespa Elettrica comes with features like LED headlight, 4.3 inch TFT instrument cluster, smartphone connectivity and even a reverse assist mode to help take the scooter out of tight parking spaces. The electric scooter employs a trailing link front suspension like the rest of the Vespas, and the rear gets a single shock absorber. Brakes include a disc up front and a drum at the rear. Vespa is unlikely to launch the scooter in India as it will be too expensive considering its features and premium quotient. However, Piaggio is working on a made-in-India electric scooter that will be developed specifically for the Indian market.
