KTM has confirmed the arrival of its 500cc platform by 2022. The new 500cc platform is being developed at Bajaj's R&D facility in Pune and will power the RC 490, 490 Duke and 490 Adventure as well as spawn a few Husqvarna models. Know more details here. The 500cc project dates back to 2018 when KTM AG boss Stefan Pierer had mentioned that they were working on a new 500cc motor.
The KTM 490 Adventure will get an all-new 500cc liquid cooled-parallel twin motor having a similar engine configuration as the 790/890 parallel-twin motors. It will possibly feature slight revisions to the bodywork. Features would include all-LED lighting and a colour-TFT instrument console similar to the KTM 390 Adventure.
The 500cc bikes will be manufactured in India so expect highly competitive pricing. The KTM 490 Adventure is expected to be priced around Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the Benelli TRK 502 as well as other adventure motorcycles like the BMW G 310 GS and Kawasaki Versys X-300.
