Grade is not the first thing you want to look at , very first thing is approval , VW petrol engines require VW504.00 oil approval for petrol and VW505.01 for diesel and even ...read more
some diesel engines require VW507.00 for approval specifically and oil grade is secondary , grade is decided upon the minimum and maximum ambient temperature you can encounter in your region, for indian climate 5w40 seems to be the best ( 5) will help you to to keep the engine lubricated and let the oil flow even upto the temperature of -10°C and (40) is good till 45°C of ambient temperature , which we encounter in peak summers easily
