I drive an XMA Petrol and I'm quite satisfied with it as far as highway touring is concerned. It returns about 13-14kmpl (tested) mileage (I expect it to increase after 2nd service). You can expect 8kmpl in bad city driving conditions (like Bangalore). Trust me, even a petrol i20 returns about 10-11 in these conditions. But like you said, you need it for occasional touring, I'd say you shouldn't rule out the petrol. It's engine runs fine. Stay in the range of 1700+rpm and you'll be delighted by the refinement levels. But to get quick move ons, you'll have to work the gears. I drive in manual mode so it doesn't rid you of the fun too.Now let's check some math. You'll be spending a little over 1lac extra for the diesel. Taking your usage into consideration, you will probably not be doing more than a 1000km a month. Then considering the mileage of both the diesel and petrol, you'll be saving roughly ₹3.8/km as running cost (not considering maintenance costs). So, going by this, by the time you recover the extra cost, you would have run your car for about 30K km, which is roughly about 3 years. So, for you, it makes sense to for the petrol version. However, you should choose the diesel of you're a driving enthusiast and your running is going to be more than 1500km a month.Nexon is a brilliant package and you won't go wrong with it.Hope this helps! Cheers!

Brother Tata Nexon is Perfect for this. Petrol version didn't have poor mileage I am getting 15-18kmpl. its just that people are not understanding the 3 driving modes in the car, if anyone drive on sports mode in city traffic then it will definitely give poor mileage. Mileage depends on your driving style I will recommend you this car because comfort in long rides and rough and Xtreme bad road is very good in this and an amazing ground clearance of 209mm and a powerful engine.

If touring is your priority and if its mostly highways, i would suggest you to go with a Sedan. The likes of Verna and City would be best. But if you want to tour including rough roads, go with Nexon diesel.Petrol is definitely underpowered but the comfort is awesome in Petrol where as the petrol powerful but a little bit noisy.Coming to variant, you can go according to your budget. Personally XM and XZ+ are favorites.
