Features: The Thar gets features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment which features off-road stats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, a multi-info display, keyless entry, cruise control, roof mounted speakers, manual AC, steering mounted audio controls, power windows and keyless entry. In terms of safety, it gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability control and a roll cage. The Thar boasts a Global NCAP crash test score of four stars.

Engine: The Mahindra Thar is offered with three engine options: a 118PS/300Nm 1.5-litre diesel, a 132PS/300Nm 2.2-litre diesel and a 150PS/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol. The 1.5-litre diesel and 2-litre turbo-petrol can be had with the rear-wheel drive option as well, while the turbo-petrol and larger diesel engine are offered with optional four-wheel drive. A 6-speed manual is offered as standard, however, the 6-speed torque converter automatic option is limited to the 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. The Thar boasts a water wading ability of 650mm, an approach angle of 41.2 degree, departure angle of 36 degree and rampover angle of 26.2 degree. It’s underpinned by a ladder frame chassis and comes with an independent double wishbone suspension at the front and multi link coil springs at the rear.

Rivals: Its immediate rival is the Force Gurkha 3-door. And it also competes with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

Variants: The Thar is available in two variants: AX Opt and LX. The off-roader SUV is available in two body styles: a convertible soft top and a fixed hard top. The petrol powered AX variant only gets a convertible top, while the remaining variants can be had with either option.

Around 89 percent of the Mahindra Thar 3-door buyers opt for the diesel variants. The Thar 3-door model is priced from Rs 11.35 lakh and is available in both petrol and diesel powertrains as well as rear-wheel and four-wheel drivetrains. A 5-door version of the Thar will be launched on August 15, 2024 and it will be called the Thar ROXX.

The Mahindra Thar is a 3-door lifestyle off-road SUV. The current-generation model was launched in 2020 and combines strong road presence with punchy engines, responsive transmissions and serious off-road capability. The Thar is available with rear-wheel drive as standard with optional 4x4 for buyers who plan to take on tough off-road challenges. While the Thar has always been a 3-door car, a 5-door model is under development and will be launched in mid-end 2024.
